If Laya were all that I'm sure Marder would have influenced axl way to make it happen. Its not like he's Skenes. Moving on.

Haha what kinda take is this? Do you not think they weren't absolutely recruiting him like hell? Your burnt orange classes are ridiculous. Schloss and Marder got out recruited. Stop sugar coating sh*t

If our coach can’t get 1 million from donations or a donor alone it’s pathetic and should be able to get 6 with the history and connection Texas has. If LSU can do it so can Texas

LSU has a sugar Daddy donor for baseball.  His name escapes me.

Pearce had to distribute his 11 baseball scholarships across the whole squad to minimize tuition fees.  Paul Skenes was very interested in pitching for Texas when he left the USAFA.  LSU blew the Texas offer out of the water.

Texas is not at the A Level of SEC baseball funding.  Texas is more like B trying to get to the B+ level.  Under Pearce they were at C-.

It’s either that or Jay Johnson got the donors real “energized” coming off a 9-21 season.

A real mystery.

Not sure on this but did LSU not have a huge portal class last year?

They have pieces now, that’s just a real frustrating portal loss.  Getting the Oregon coach in with some excitement and hoping for portal momentum.  Loss seems bigger than it probably is.  Now if they can add someone like Paz to work with Max, it will be forgotten.  Feels like they need another high level arm.  IF Williams is healthy, the OF should be pretty good!  Need a quality INF that doesn’t kill you on offense.  Too many of those last year.  After sitting on it for 24 hrs. Texas will be ok!  Hook ‘em

Yes. A top 10 one. Then Jay Jonson threw them all under the bus in April and said they weren’t good. Now he gets more money and a do-over.

Must be nice. If that season happened at Texas all we would hear is NIL won’t increase until results are shown on the field!

He has a great record at LSU . I agree with everyone, we need to be competitive in NIL .

So to be clear, you think Schloss was able to energize everyone at A&M to give boatloads of money but isn’t able to do that here because he isn’t doing a good enough job of “energizing” everyone at Texas?

That sounds silly just typing it out.

Our donors don’t have a win at all cost mentality, I hope this helps.

And Schloss has a great record here. Yet some (not saying you) seem to think he needs to “energize” people more.

I guess winning conference titles and going to Omaha doesn’t get people fired up enough. Maybe Schloss will call unproven head coach Michael Earley to find out how he gets donors “energized” following back to back disappointing seasons.

Schloss has an outstanding record every where he’s coached. If our donors can’t support him enough to bring in the talent needed to win it all then that is on the donors.

Jay Johnson has something very important that Jim Schlossnagle doesn't have: two rings

And you know what got Jay Johnson his first ring? Spending.

Most know the real answer. There is just a small fraction wandering in the wilderness making up other excuses.

Maybe there will be a wake up call at some point. Hopefully it doesn’t involve a subpar season.

Lmao this thread is hilarious coming off of a CWS appearance, and returning a large core of players. I’d hate to see this place if we sucked. I probably wouldn’t log in 🤣

We went to 3 CWS with Pierce and he was fired, the expectations are championships at this point. If we plan to take the next step either donors needs to step up and pay what it takes to win one or Schloss money balls it and coaches his butt off.

Seems like the latter is more likely to happen for Schloss to win it.  That’s how Skip Johnson finally got over the hump despite not having top tier NIL and coaching at one of the few schools where softball is prioritized over baseball.  Got hot at the right time.

Which is sad due to baseball being our richest tradition sport.

This sounds good on the surface but the way this team is structured player and coaching wise is completely different. Yall heard Bobby say we weren’t A tier in NIL and lost it.

There is no world where we have the money for Tinney and Robbin’s last year. Now everyone is saying we are getting lockered and broke. We didn’t need a lot in the portal. Others keeps saying this along with the mods.

We kind of do need a lot in the portal though. We don’t know how healthy Jonah will be. So right now only 2 proven starters in the OF. We are losing Mendoza so we don’t have a second baseman currently or atleast one that’s proven. We don’t have a proven Sunday starter and with that. We are unsure what the bullpen will look like.

I feel like we have the same discussion every time Texas loses a portal recruitment.

Here are some points worth filing away:

1. Texas isn’t broke when it comes to baseball spending. The baseball program is probably third or fourth in a 16-team SEC. It should come as a surprise to nobody that what LSU wants, LSU will get when it comes to money spent in baseball. Take that for whatever it’s worth.

2. Retention isn’t cheap. There’s a pool of available money for the roster and to keep Volantis, Cozart, A-Rod, Pack, etc. costs money. I know that’s probably not what some people want to hear, but that’s reality.

3. It’s incredibly shortsighted to think Schloss hired Marder only to get Laya. That’s not how this works. Like Sark, Schloss wants to have a program in which the foundation is high school recruiting and player development. Marder is on track to be a head coach and seeing how things work at a place like Texas is a step in that direction for his career.

4. With Laya picking LSU, Texas is going to offer the most it can. Whether the dollar figures guys are promised at other places come to fruition is another matter. Regardless, Texas is going to be as competitive as it can be. That’s one the Longhorns just didn’t win.

5. On Bino Watters, we might be able to get into the backstory of the recruitment at some point. For now, all I can ask is that you trust what @Blake Munroe and has reported, that it wasn’t money that made the difference. That’s not as simple of a loss as it might appear to be on the surface.

6. The bottom line is that the losses hurt. Yes, the staff has some young players on the roster (especially pitchers) they’re excited to see develop who they feel can fill some of the roster voids. Still, missing on Watters and Laya hurts, especially with them going to a conference opponents. More than one thing can be true though. Texas can lose some portal battles and have roster questions, but it doesn’t mean the program lacks funds/support to compete for championships. I’ve got concerns about the 2027 roster, but I believe the current staff can get the most out of what they’ve got, which would be enough to get back to Omaha.
