With this part of the offseason kind of slow due to the dead period, I ve thought of this while I sit here at work on a Sunday.

Quinn Ewers, I can’t help but think what his career would have looked like if he could have stayed healthy. His last year at Texas was tough to watch at times just by looking at the difference in the throws he made from Michigan to the later part of the season. As president of the Quinn Ewers fan club I will always be proud of the career he did have.

Jammal Charles, had a tremendous career both in college and the NFL. I ve always wondered what 2009 would have looked like with him in the backfield for one final season. Another National Championship? Hard to think that wouldn’t have bettered the odds.

Colt McCoy, everyone will always wonder what the outcome would have been if he not got injured vs Bama in the NC game. A W will be the answer for the majority but boy what the game highlights would have looked like if he wouldn’t have got injured.

Honorable mentions: Ramonce Taylor, Malik Jefferson, Jonathan Brooks, CJ Baxter, the list of QBs Mack passed on after Colt

I echo Jonathan Brooks.  Was the 23 team our best team to win it all?  If Brooks had not got hurt, we beat Washington and play Michigan.  A.D Mitchell, Worthy and Brooks against that Michigan defense.

What if Ewers came back for his final season in 2025?  I know he struggled in 2024, but doubt Texas loses to Florida in the swamp and maybe we beat Ohio State on the road.  We make the playoffs at least and with the talent we had who know what could have happened.

My only concern was our O Line against that Michigan D. Penix was getting killed all night and likely would have been the same for Quinn.. Defensively though, we matched up perfectly against Mich. Our run defense was so good and although our secondary was our weak spot that year, JJ wasn't a threat at all (as proven so far in the NFL). Echo Jbro though, as part of the Quinn fan club, I wanted him to win so badly and it was sad seeing the difference from the Michigan game to the rest of the year with the zip on the ball.

Would have loved to see some of my favorites such as Quinn, Mookie, Barron and J Whitt win one but they paved the way. It's time for Arch, Colin, Trevor and Jelani to bring it home!

Sarks play calling was pretty on point that year, I think he would have had a similar game plan to what he used in the in season match up the next season by making them run sideline to sideline

That's very true, good point. He essentially took out/limited Graham and Mason that game.

Bryan Pickryl out of Jenks. Would have been a very high level pass rusher and NFL draft pick if not for career ending injuries. Add him to those 2004 & 2005 teams

Would have been a sight to see with B Rob and Crowder doing a damn good job

1. Greg Davis calls a different play inside the ten against Bama.

2. Gideon makes the interception.

3. VY comes back for his senior year.

Very true, this list could have easily been pages long

Didn't Charles play the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons and then declare?

Ewers in 2025 could've flourished but then again I would be skeptical since the O-line was worse than it was in 2024. Quinn was a more accurate thrower of those short to mid routes and he would've processed the field quicker but we all know his biggest weakness was pocket awareness and if he would've faced the same pockets as Arch did, he would have been prone to more TO, especially against Florida.

Yes he left after the 2007 season had my years mixed up on that one

Edit Jammal’s timeline to 2008 not 2009

Texas would have won a natty in 2008 because of Charles running the catching the ball out the backfield.

Charles made the right decision in entering the 2007 draft.

Mike Williams is the answer for me. Freakish ability. Remember his recruitment out of Lindale and thinking he may have been the best talent in a loaded class.

We should be talking about him as an all time Texas great.
