No way a backside LB should have touched him let alone hit him hard. Poor play call, perhaps, but abysmal execution. The injury was the result and should not have happened. Marcell darius definitely was not a backside linebacker. He was the dt and blew up the play. 1 Quote

That’s part of the problem with the play call. We weren’t great at running the play in the first place. If you ranked our plays in order of execution, that one was well down the list. 1 Quote

The biggest travesty was that it further exposed the issue that Colt and Shipley had bailed out the lack of a running game all season and that play was the pinnacle of that issue coming to life in the worst possible way. Much like the last two games against Ohio State you shouldn’t have to risk your QBs life to score inside the ten. Quote
CoachBobbyFinstock Posted Sunday at 10:14 PM Posted Sunday at 10:14 PM I think of seasons… 2008 if we have a playoff or the right thing was done. Texas should have played for a title. 2009 If Colt doesn’t get hurt 2023 If AD can somehow come up with the ball in the waning moments we again play for a title. 1 Quote

Waxahorn Posted Sunday at 11:03 PM Posted Sunday at 11:03 PM (edited) For the older folks: Roosevelt Leaks would have been a favorite for the Heisman in 1974 if not for the knee injury in the spring of 74. Edwin Simmons looked like a superstar until the knee injury at Arkansas 1983. And that year we were a muffed punt away from a national championship. I could go on but if if's and but's were candy and nuts... Edited Sunday at 11:05 PM by Waxahorn 2 Quote
BornOrange Posted Sunday at 11:20 PM Posted Sunday at 11:20 PM What if Doak Walker had joined Bobby Layne at UT. An early case of SMU recruiting shenanigans. 1 Quote

Probably wouldn't be the 6-7 it ended up being but at best we're talking maybe 8-5. Quote
CoachScott619 Posted yesterday at 04:26 AM Posted yesterday at 04:26 AM The Colt McCoy shoulder to me is by far the biggest one. Number 2 would probably be if we tackled Crabtree in 2008. Quote

Remember his recruitment out of Lindale and thinking he may have been the best talent in a loaded class. We should be talking about him as an all time Texas great. He started as a linebacker and then moved to end before his sophomore season in 2003. He made an impact as a sophomore. Can you imagine Williams and Brian Pickryl on that 2005 defensive line? 2 Quote
