TexasLonghorns
@Gerry Hamilton who do you see being on the short list here? Wonder if Milwee might be on that list.

horns96
Dumb move by Rice (my other alma mater). Not sure what their plan is here. 1

Assistant Regional Manager
Almost an impossible job in the portal era with their academic requirements. Basically a job you take to collect the check and get fired eventually.

Neil Leininger
Bloomgren is going to make an OL really good next year, his OL at Stanford was good and nasty.

Rivalrygameblock
I’d bet they go someone local that has connections to recruit Houston since Bloomgren didn’t. Jon Kay should be mirroring the Jeff Traylor pitch. If not local, take a swing at Tim Beck (the Vandy one).

Inspired73
As someone who has had relatives coach there, and a client that coach there, I feel fairly certain that the 'plan', is 'No PLAN'. No one of significance associated with Rice gives a damn about athletics (or P.E. for that matter). You can probably still find a few folks hanging around the R Club (or whatever they call it now) reminiscing about Dicky Moegle, Bubby Dial and Rice Stadium filled to capacity. These guys have no clue about minor league football. Rice is where old coaches go to retire. Seriously, Rice is a really really special place.........but not for football players. If you want to be a world class chemist, or engineer, or astrologer, or doctor........then it should be your desired destination.

If you want to be a world class chemist, or engineer, or astrologer, or doctor........then it should be your desired destination. I went to graduate school at Texas and had a classmate who played football at Rice. An outstanding student and a great guy. Our team won the grad/Law school division of Intramural football because of him. He was a QB in high school and played Safety at Rice. I remember asking him how his experience went at Rice as a student athlete. He said he was dating several young women at Texas to make up for lost time because the female students at Rice were "really weird." I've never forgotten the quote!

jkates
I wonder if Marques Tuiasosopo wants it or if they'd consider interviewing him. My understanding is that he feels freed up under the interim HC to call a more open, fun, recruitable offense.

As many colleges are expanding their stadiums and practice facilities Rice has been shrinking the seating at the venerable Rice Stadium. When you consider the stadium's history (President Kennedy speech, Super Bowl, etc) it's an indication of the direction of the football program. It just seems like Rice should be able to carve out a local niche in Houston... football crazy region, support from the business and professional communities and a recruiting base to draw players good enough to play college football but short of the size and speed requirements to play at the top schools. But times are changing rapidly in CFB and where Rice could fit is problematic.

Jc Dobbs
Thanks for the info. I haven't lived in Houston for several years. I stay in touch with a friend who is a Rice graduate and former football player. He confirmed what you wrote. I

I bet there would be a nice analyst spot available for him at Texas if he isn’t retained.
