I’m sure he is super eager to come back and work for the people who fired him with cause at the lowest point of his life.

You mean when he fired himself and jeopardized his career with his actions.

Here’s another difference between Worthy and Beard IF Worthy did any of what was alleged. Beard was in a job where his role was to be a leader of young men. As a player or a parent, I wouldn’t put much stock in anything he told me in the locker room or on the recruiting trail after that incident. He forfeited the right to tell players how to be good men and hurt his ability to do his job. Worthy on the other hand is a 21 year old kid in no position of leadership.

Call your shot. I’ll send whoever gets it right first a lawnmower 5.0.

New or used? My predication will be dictated by your answer.

New - Royal Ivy

Used - Coach K

I disagree about the final four run being a fluke.  It would have been a fluke if NC State had faced nothing but double digit seeds after the first round, but it beat 2 seed Marquette and then 4 seed Duke for the second time in 17 days.  Add the win over UNC in the ACC tournament and the 13 point win over Tech, that was a run of great play, not luck.

Look at how quickly NCSU pulled the trigger.  This was less than a year removed from a fluke Final Four run.

A couple of things:

NCSU did not pull the trigger quickly. It was Year 8.

He was probably going to get fired last year if they'd not made the run. His record before the run was.... 17-14, same as RT's today (and right down to losing seven of nine before the postseason).

Difference: KenPom rating of 78 before that run started (compared to RT's 46 today).

Another difference: They'd already gone through a 70 year with him -- 2021, Covid -- *and* a 128 in 2022, 11-21.

So it was one thing to make that run and get to the FF. It was quite another to get an auto extension, then go 12-19, 124 in KP. They've already ridden the ladder as high as it would go and they were back as low as they were. So he's out.

This is NOT what RT has delivered, post EE. He had a 7 seed (25 in KP), likely no NCAA (46). Ignoring whatever coaching style/failures that might lead to a change, the metrics themselves don't say to eject. It's crazy talk that this is the low point for Texas basketball and a horrible season. I don't feel like this season was a waste of Tre. They were in the toughest league in America, and have been for the last decade.

Beard is a friend. Not sure he wants any new job badly or were that came from.

Letting him go for next to nothing and zero charges just once again shows Horns aren't serious about men.s basketball.  CDC got holier than thou and sent set the program back 5 years atleast.

Terry is a decent assistant coach for a top 25 team but damn sure not a head coach. He did to finish out the season with Beard's players and scheme.

Only hope is to hire the coach of whatever smaller program lights it up in a couple weeks.

Your friend is a woman beating alcoholic. The right move was made to fire him. His arrogance and stupidity toward his boss and university afterwards via lawyer sealed his fate even further. He should have been more humble toward the university and his boss instead of a standoffish asshole then he’d probably still have his job.

Quinn Snyder, Sean Miller, Royal Ivey

Those would be my betting favorites. This opinion is fairly informed by someone very close to the epicenter of Texas Hoops.

No no no.

I don't think being humble or less standoffish would have kept him from being fired. There are a lot of productive coaches who are not pleasant people.

I would have hoped by now that everyone would have gotten past suggesting Beard, Wright, Self, Donovan, and a few others who obviously are not coming to Austin.

I found out a little piece of information recently. Self was very very very close to becoming the OSU coach when the position opened up a year or two ago

Beard is trying as hard as he can to get Indiana. Period.

Yeah, he and his attorney really torpedoed any chance of him getting a end of year suspension. Not that was really on the table after the picture of him in the prison unis hit the internet. He was warned multiple times to leave the woman in Lubbock, so his/her combatitive relationship was a known quantity when he took the job.

And ultimately that is why he was let go. Anyone else could hire him -- he didn't screw up there. But if he screwed up again at UT, the people who kept him on would pay a price, and they didn't feel like paying it.

He left his wife and kids for a nut case women that cost him his dream job and lots of money.

I agree 100%, but unfortunately until a coach takes us back at least to the same level beard had us, the talk will continue. Same as Saban to Texas until Sark got it done.

The Beard myth will never go away.

We should always remember Beard got us only to the round of 32.   The next year he lost the only game we played outside of Austin against a team with a pulse.
