I've always felt Mack lost his sense of purpose when Colt got hurt against bama. He never got it back the next 4 years.

And some fans give the second best HC in Texas football history the Nico Harrison treatment because of that.  I was sad to see it end the way it did, but you can never make me hate the man.  He’s a big reason I became a Longhorn fan.

I thought he was self-centered and selfish at the end of his tenure.  He brought us a natty (mostly Vince) and then Colt got hurt on his 2nd try.  After that, it felt like he was phoning it in his last 4 years here.  I didn't miss him when he finally left and I don't miss him now.

Mack did not try to burn the program down.

He DID burn the program down. 

He also recruited arguably the greatest CFB in history.  He was very influential.  I am glad for 2005, but I would not trust Mack Brown in a business deal.  He is a snake oil salesman that win it all once.

Just because one doesn't particularly care for the coaching job he did the last few years of his career or how he handled recruits on his way out doesn't mean you hate him.

5 Bible if we're going exactly 80 years lol

 

Top 3 are set, for now until Sark potentially wins a title. Some bad luck for Akers cost him the #2 spot IMO.

He’s not coming back to coach, so just chill.  Why can’t you guys just be gracious to the 70 or so year old man who did a lot for this university.  His former football players have much more invested in this university than any of you, and they don’t hate.  They respect the man.

I think the injury to Colt in the MNC game knocked Mack’s antenna off and he lost his way. He completely abandoned what he had built his program to be, and, while know what was wrong, seemed to lose the ability to lead it in the right direction again. And then he lost his head when the inevitable was clear.

Still hilarious to me that everyone blames Mack for “burning the program down” when Steve Patterson is the one who truly burnt the program and athletic department down. 
 

Mack did not go out right, all agree with that, but he went 8-5, 9-4 and 8-5 his last three years. Definitely not good, but still better than he found it after a legendary run. Considerably better than the next several years after he left. 
 

He also gets the blame for Nick Saban not coming, which he had a part, but Nick Saban was not coming here to work for Steve Patterson. Zero chance.

Mack will always be a legendary coach at Texas, behind DKR though for sure.  Our present coach may push these two though before it's all said and done.

Patterson, and his wildly out of touch former NBA hype agent something or other Israel were completely misaligned with the fans and collegiate sports, but Mack tried to destroy the roster on the way out and undermine his successor. 

 

Btw, I can’t remember that lady’s first name, we can thank her for jetpack man, but watching her fingerprints on the program made me consider a new meaning to the phrase “Drive Israel into the sea.” She had no idea what she was doing.

Who all left? I remember Charlie unloading a bunch of guys but I don’t recall any player of substance leaving or being told they should leave. I also remember him trying to recruit a Florida kid right before the infamous Red Banquet.

The standard wasn’t who left. The standard was that he was actively trying to undermine the roster. 

Also, Mack out “killing himself” on the road for the Florida recruit was clearly a move to get him out of Austin and away from the heat.
