Bobby Burton Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Our friend Brooks Austin, aka The Film Guy, has a nice breakdown here on how he thinks Texas will defend Buckeye receiver Jeremiah Smith. I texted with Brooks this morning. He’s got this matchup circled in part because of how well Texas defended Smith in January. 21 Quote
HookEmLonghorns Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I love watching his film studies. Thanks for sharing! 3 Quote
Hookem1012 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Wherever he goes, Manny goes. With help over the top. Let’s see if Smith has learned how to play against doubles and zones, since he “struggled” against them last year. What our guys did against him in the cotton bowl is exactly what we should do again. 3 Quote
Jonas Peterson Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago He dropped one on CJ Baxter yesterday as well. 5 Quote
Jet Jones Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I really enjoy watching The Film Guy's stuff. Brooks really knows football and is fair when assessing players and breaking down film. OTF, The Film Guy, and That SEC Podcast are my daily go-to for college football content. 2 Quote
Dread-headed Texan Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Smith is not a polished wideout. He really doesn't run routes. He runs drags and gos. He's not a reciever you want to play trail technique or really try to jump with him. You don't play Smith you play the ball and limit his yard after catch. Otherwise you're just gonna get head tapped on ran away from. Play disciplined in your technique and coverage and you're good. 2 Quote

Who has time to watch all that daily? Even if I was retired I couldn't keep up. 2 Quote

Texas had a lot of success shutting Smith down in January, but to say he is not a polished receiver and does not run good routes is comical at best. He would be aa top ten first round pick this year in the draft if he was not a Soph. 1. Will that same strategy work again? Do you think Ohio state is not going to get creative to get the ball to him? 2. If that strategy works Carnell Tate had a big game on Texas last January, Innis is the real dela and OSU has a major upgrade at TE in Max Klare who draft experts are comparing to Brock Bowers and touting as a first rounder. You can not double all of them. Best scenario is get to Sayin early and often and do not give him time to let that quick release of his go. 1 Quote

If Ohio State is able to win this game, I think they have a lot of success in the middle of the field. Whether that is James Peoples & CJ Donaldson Jr running between the guards, or Max Klare and Brandon Innis in the seams. Quote

You have way too much confidence in either your offensive Just now, Ironmanz35 said: I will listen to the NFL guys. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/44630603/2025-nfl-draft-jeremiah-smith-ohio-state-how-high Listen to who you want did you watch it? What did you see? You seen a lot of drags underneath and a lot of go routes. If you didn't I'm wasting my time talking to you because you don't know the route tree and if you don't know the route tree you don't know football. What I said is exactly what you see a lot of run after catch or he was head tapping. And to answer your question if you're relying on qetting rid of the ball quick how deep is your drop and doesn't the route and drop have to be timed together. Or are you saying Sayin can throw 70 yards down field on a 3 step drop. Quote

Also I am sure they will roll Sayin out and hit some drag routes, I can also see them putting Smith in the slot and in motion. They will also use him as a decoy and sling it out to Klare on some dig routes. Sayin won't need to throw the ball 70 yards at anytime on 8/30. He just needs to get the ball to his playmakers and let them make plays. Smith's speed and YAC are going to be a problem. Quote

Tackling Smith is way easier for one of the better secondaries than it is to run with him is my point. If you think Day is going to put the ball in a first time starter in a game of this magnitude is crazy work. Day isn't crazy, Ohio State's run game will have way more say on if Ohio State wins or not. Colin may be the best end on the team, so it's not just him you have to worry about. There's Moore, Burke, Spence, and Vaseck. You're not going to be able to block Simmons 1 on 1. So you'll have to put a tight end or chip with a back, which takes a player out of the pass route. Or if you go 21 personnel you either have to take a reciever or back off the field. I don't know what the gameplan or the outcome will be, but regardless of what's coming I'm sure Texas will be ready. 2 Quote

Day learned his lesson trying to coach not to lose, as evidence after the Michigan loss. The running game will not be abandoned but our strength is Sayin and the receivers. On a cool note I hear BEVO is making the trip to the shoe. I am pulling for my Buckeyes to win but wont be surprised if they do not. If this was BEVO vs. BRUTUS. I know BEVO wins that one all day... 1 Quote

I wouldn't and I know Sark isn't going to put the pressure on Arch to win the game. He's going to lean on his unlimited screen game, the running game, all to set up the deep shot. With the stable of running backs Texas has I'd be surprised if Arch throws more than 25 times. 1 Quote
NothinButDaHorns34 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago A lot of ohio state fans in the comments on that video seem to think klare is a “first round tight end” so he will help jeremiah but a lot of times reality is different then what you think. Quote
Joe Naural Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) Days offenses are notoriously low scoring in the beginning of season… they win defensively in those big early games ..perhaps its the complexity of of schemes Pks stopping the run…thats his MO! I predict he stacks the box …Sayin aint last yrs qb.. last yrs playoff game u had osu offense full throttle… (ant-hill coming off edge w Collins on other side)….the new twist for this game pure speculation…. pony package w Wisner/ Clark paired up w Baxter… gives Arch .. like a 2nd TE plus hard runner and threat to catch.. if arch is allowed to bootleg w threat of running …and he gets hot… its over for osu field position field position field position… mid field Sarks gonna turn Arch looose…. HookemChappy Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Klare is a great receiving threat, but how is his pass pro blocking? I think OSU will need some help protecting. Quote

PK won’t stack the box but will disguise a lot. If he can stop the run with a 5 man box early then that will be a good sign for us. That’s why I like Taffe coming down to the nickel. Quote

Klare is good but he's nowhere near Bowers, that's a crazy comparison lol. Good TE but I don't know if I'd go that far. Agree with you about Smith, but Tate and Innis aren't on the same level as Egbuka, imo. He was a legit 1st round talent and a stud at WR with Smith. I don't recall Tate having a big game against us but I'd have to go and look it up. I think Texas needs to get pressure and rattle Sayin, get in his head. They'll also disguise how they take on Smith. I'm not worried tbh, I think it'll be a great game and exciting. Tons of NFL talent all over the field in this one. Quote
