Drunk randoke Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago I’m antsy. Can’t sleep. This is season #37 for me. Five decades. My dad who didn’t go to college was a huge Texas fan. Took me to the 1989 Texas Penn State game in Austin. I was hooked. Love this place. I’m a recruiting nut and love Gerry’s work. Everyone here. Let’s go win a natty ladies and gentlemen 10 1 Quote
Chop Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Dad and step mom went to Texas. I remember going to my dad’s on the weekend and he was busy working still so he’d turn Texas on and I would watch Major Applewhite do his thing. Then lived in Austin since 8th grade. I remember going to the co-op in 05 after the Rose Bowl win in high school and going crazy. i foolishly decided to get out of Austin for college instead of UT but I guess it worked out since I met my wife at school! Haha 2 Quote
Mike Gosnell Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Born and raised in Western Pennsylvania. Now live in Eastern Pennsylvania. Growing up, my mom would work on weekends so my grandparents would babysit me. My pap played high school football in the 1930s and won a state championship. He loved football. We’d watch Gameday and watch Penn State and other games. One day a team with orange jerseys appeared on the TV. My eyes were fixated immediately on the screen. The rest is history. I turned 32 on August 27. I may not be a Texas Ex but the university and the Horns mean a lot to me. 7 Quote
Paul Jespersen Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Earl Campbell. honestly, Aggie jokes. lol. Didn’t want to be THAT. then went to UT, played some lacrosse. eventually managed 2 degrees. Ricky Williams. Vince Young Colt McCoy Daughter and son in law went and graduated. Bleedin’ burnt orange. Hook em 🤘 Quote

My dad is as big a fan as any and out two kids through Texas. 1 Quote
Bunk Moreland Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago (edited) Parents both went to UT. My dad’s family were all Ags, but also lots of Texas grads in the family too. My first real UT football memory was Ricky’s record-setting game against A&M. I was 11. I was hooked after that. I was a huge Major fan and always secretly rooted for him over Simms. I went to college out of state but became a rabid fan during the 2004 season as a college freshman. I started following recruiting in 2005 on OB. Followed to 247 after Gerry and Bobby headed that way. I went to UT for grad school, which was one of the best decisions I ever made. Loved living in Austin, going to games, living the 40 Acres life. I haven’t lived in Texas for over a decade, but following Texas football brings me connection to home. Hook em! Edited 20 hours ago by Bunk Moreland Quote
.45s Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Since about the early 60s. My dad was not a huge college football fan but he loved Tommy Nobis. I barely remember Nobis but remember a lot from the news. Been a UT fan ever since. 3 Quote
Tim Longoria Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I remember my first toy football uniform and helmet were Longhorns. I had to have been 6 or 7 at the time. I was so hooked on football I used to steal the pawns out of my dads chess set to use as pylons for my field aka the hallway w carpet. First time I can really recall a game was Roll Left. Been a fan ever since, even during the dark days. Going to camp before my senior year (summer of 2004) was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I didn't even care if they recruited me or not, I was just excited to actually be there and run drills and 7 on 7 first in DKR then the bubble. Seeing my dad speechless when he got to meet Mack afterwards was the cherry on top. 1 Quote
AusMOJO Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I was a Texas fan just before the National Title season in 2005. My cousin was watching a game of theirs in 2004 and I remember seeing Vince Young playing and was enamored. Fell in love with Texas Longhorns after that and have been a fan ever since. Quote
GoHorns1 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago (edited) My parents took me to a Texas/Rice when was an infant. When Rice scored I tossed my bottle 74 years ago. Edited 18 hours ago by GoHorns1 3 Quote

Jackson Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago When I was 8 years old, my dad put on the national championship game… turns out it was Texas vs bama, it was the first game I remember watching and it was something about that burnt orange cause since that day I’ve been bleeding burnt orange. I haven’t missed a game since then and won’t til I die.(whole family is Miami and FSU fans… thanks dad for turning on that game 🤣) Quote
Waxahorn Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago My brother went to UT in 1963. I went to UT in 1973. I have attended over 200 Longhorn football games spanning 6 decades. My daughter went to UT in 2000. While in school she got a job working in Mack Brown's office. After experiencing the 30-game winning streak I wasn't sure I would live to see another championship, but 2005 finally delivered. Now I want another. 2 Quote

Let’s go win a natty ladies and gentlemen Dec 6th, 1969, 1st football game I ever watched. I was a 7th grader and AF brat, football was something you played at that age. Dad had been assigned a year unaccompanied (no dependents) to Korea. I suspect my Cousin Ronnie, who was a film and journalism major at TEXAS, had something to do with it, I'm not sure. But I knew I was hooked (not sorry for the pun). Watched the game on an old black and white TV, we were living in an apartment out the gate of Randolph. BTW, Randolph Field was 1-0-1 vs the Longhorns during the WWII war years. Dad was from Pandora, Texas, a south Texas town that has been absorbed into Nixon, Texas, which isn't much bigger. Most of the family were Aggies as they were mostly farmers, many still are. Dad served in the Pacific, while Uncle Ferd was a B-26 crewman, flew 2 missions on D-Day, and came home with a Silver Star. Uncle Milton (Uncle by marriage) ran one of the peanut farms in Dilley, Texas, and was a Marine at Iwo Jima. 2 years later when I was trying to play HS football, we were visited by on again, off again starting LB for the Horns Bruce Cannon, who had been a star at Randolph. Bruce passed away recently after returning to Randolph to run the school. I graduated the same year as Earl Campbell and we were proud, we were the last San Antonio team still standing in that chilly Decemeber Good morning my friend. And yes Gerry and Jeff Howe do GREAT work but F Frienswood. Really enjoying the site. Gerry's Dad's team (Friendswood) would rather unceremoniously end our playoff dreams one step from the title, F Friendswood. It was an unlikely run that year but I got to play against such Longhorn legends as Brad Shearer from Westlake (his coach, Ken Dabbs would be hired by TEXAS with the sole purpose of recruiting Ricky) and Steve McMichael from Freer. 1 Quote
Moderators Jeff Howe Posted 7 hours ago Moderators Posted 7 hours ago Oct. 2, 1993. My cousin, a UT grad, took me to my first Longhorn game. Texas beat a Rice team quarterbacked by Bert Emanuel, 55-38. Some guy in burnt orange named Anthony Holmes ran for 86 yards and two touchdowns (I wonder what happened to that guy?). I've been hooked ever since! 1 Quote
Huskie1 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I have family that are grads so I’ve always been a Longhorn and was blessed to go to school there. My mom remarried and I went to middle school and high school in Oklahoma but always repped my Horns and got back to Texas as soon as I could. I also have 2 daughters who are Texas Exes so the tradition continues. Hook Em!!! Quote

GQ03 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Was the type of kid that watched the Sonic Inside High School Football highlights on Saturday mornings instead of cartoons. My favorite holiday was New Year's Day because as a kid growing up without cable I was forced to watch the SWC and Notre Dame only and New Year's Day was when the teams I couldn't normally watch were on network TV all day. Long way of saying I've been a sports freak for as long as I can remember. Now to the question at hand, having been forced to endure the Raycom Game of the Week as my Football match my 3-4 year old self saw a team with a uniform that said Texas on the front and I knew Texas was where I was living and where I was born and instantly I felt that team represented me. Sure, there were other teams like Texas Tech and Texas A&M that also had the state in the name but my 3-4 year old self couldn't tell you what a Tech or A&M was so for me its always been that simple. 1 Quote

Dallas90 Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Born and raised in Austin before there was traffic. Dad had his undergrad and Medical degree from UT. He took me to the home opener of the 1969 season (TX-49 Tech-7) and it kind of became our thing. Dad bought season tickets starting in 1970. Went 40 years without missing a home game, vast majority with dad. Went to Texas as a Pre-Med Biology major, but ended up as an airline Captain. The work schedule and having kids put an end to the 40 year home game streak, but that's okay. The kids are grown (with one daughter a UT grad), and I just retired so I'm 5 years into a new streak! dentonhorn Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Longhorn fan since 1963 and Texas beating Navy in the Cotton Bowl. I became a 100% commited orange blood when our HS QB went to Austin and won a national title. Quote
