The biggest takeaways being at the game were 1) Kick the damn FG and take points. We would’ve won had he kicked the 3x we were in FG range.

We lose 14-9 if we kick 3 times in FG range.

Complain about whatever you want but going for it on 4th and 1 from the 1 foot line when an all a FG does is require you to score a TD later is dumb. Every other coach would have gone for it considering what Texas had shown offensively up to that point.

He hadn't been hit until today

Thanks, meant more so maybe it happened during game?

I think one of the OTF peeps (Amanda) said they heard he had a shoulder. Appreciate it.

Two great teams went to battle today. I thought both showed class and respect toward each other. We are likely to see them again. Ryan Day is a better coach than I imagined. Seems like a humble dude too.

When he’s not playing Michigan, he’s the second best HC in the game behind Kirby.

Good stuff Gerry. No fluff, says it the way it is.

I didn’t expect a prime time Arch but I did think I would see a competent one. It was borderline unwatchable at times. So disappointing after being in the system three years and the hype he was playing well in camp.

I thought the gameplan wasn’t good. I’m surprised they never went empty just to simplify reads and clear the field up. It also would have gotten the ball out quickly.  Arch never got in a rhythm. Today blindsided me. Nothing what I expected at all.

Texas had every chance to win and blew a golden opportunity because the defense/punter are elite.

Yeah…I don’t know what’s up but it’s annoying that Sark clearly planned to limit Arch.

Arch missed wide open plays and maybe if he makes those it doesn’t matter. But IMO (another idiot watching from a living room chair) Sark plays scared too often.

How did Sark plan to limit Arch? Arch forced Sark to limit him. The first throw was a perfect call and Arch skipped the ball. Arch couldn’t even throw the screen. Can’t wait for the Film Guy to break this down. Arch couldn’t make the 2nd or 3rd read.

The actually went empty multiple times. I think the interception was out of empty.

I watched a six man football game on Friday and that kid had perfect deep throws that were dropped. I never bought into the Heisman, first pick in the draft BS. Arch has too much talent to not succeed. I never expected him to miss such easy passes all game. I thought in the second half it would get better and it didn’t. Sark has got to use this kids legs. I am not so confident in the run game. It didn’t work on fourth and one. Confidence in the run game would have been a handoff like Ohio State did. Instead it looked like a tush push. I am more concerned about Sark than Arch. His running up the middle on second and long makes no sense.

Despite an entire off season Texas still turns the ball over, has penalties at the worst times and still can’t score in close against elite teams. You have to beat elite teams to win a national championship and Texas seems to struggle once it gets to the best of the best. Sark seems determined to do it his way. It seems like he refuses to believe another team may have a better line than his. Ohio State scored on a three yard running play. A really good defense couldn’t stop them. It’s not like Ohio State did anything special on that play. And Texas can’t score on the one yard line. This stings more because they could have won this game. It would have given them a little more wiggle room against a brutal SEC schedule. It’s going to be a while before Texas faces another team where they are matched against elite talent on both sides of the ball. So it’s back to wait and see mode. It’s only the first game but I was not expecting to see more of the same issues as last year. Texas does have an awesome punter though. That’s not a sarcastic comment. I think he’s really good.

Noticed that too. It looked nothing like a normal Sark offense. It was bizarre.

It’s almost like Sark has a really young team and a QB that hasn’t been able to master the playbook.

The cognitive gymnastics going on to get past the glaring truth of this game- Arch sucked.

It’s been a problem the previous two seasons and appears to be a problem again this season.  It can’t be the QB only.

Positive outlook: Texas beats the defending champs on the road if Arch just plays a C+ game

This is so true. We didn’t need Arch to win the game for us. Our run game was good. We just needed him to not lose the game for us which he did.

Don’t over due that run game. Ohio State wasn’t worried about Wisner.  He was slow and hesitant.

He had 5 ypc lol

Well, I’ll disagree with him.

I didn’t like the game plan but to your own point, guys were open and arch stunk it up. Sark takes too long to abandon the theory of what works when execution charity isn’t it allowing to. He gets the qb will rebound until it’s too late.

I’m wondering if the lack of pre-snap motion is due to offensive line being new and Sark & co didn’t want to have potentially more pre-snap penalties than we already had.

Otherwise, doesn’t make sense, this is Arch’s third year in this playbook, he should know it.

Only other thing I can think of is Sark is thinking long term and didn’t want to reveal anything game 1 since it doesn’t really impact Texas’ playoff chances win or lose.  Obviously would rather win, but peaking at the end of the year is preferred over shooting your shot early.

Pre snap motion would not have helped there was plenty of open receivers. Arch just couldn’t hit anything today. His mechanics went out the window.

It was such a shocking and disappointing performance, and IMO it feels like he was just mentally overwhelmed throughout.

Clearly he needs a lot more reps. After initially being pissed about our 3 non-conference home game schedule vs. scrubs coming up, it's probably just what the doctor ordered for Arch.

I have no doubt he will learn a lot from this one and get better in a hurry.

Arch just needed to complete the easy passes, i would have liked to more wr screens. It’s like we played with a 1/4 of the playbook but i trust Sark on to next week
