Some believe the mother of the player is on a crusade with this. My wife probably would be too if it were our son. However, it is my understanding that Cordova and others cleaned out the peanuts immediately following being told that the player could actually die from an interaction and also before the player actually put anything on. However, the player still got hives afterward because of the residue. Still, the player did not have a major reaction. He got hives. The player who got hives then played in a football game later that night. His parents didn’t even know it had happened until several days later. Folks at Lake Travis and officers looked into this and deemed two things: 1) they suspended Cordova for 2-3 games and 2) did not pursue further charges after interviewing all involved. Again, I am NOT choosing sides. I am putting this out there because both sides should be heard. People should not condemn Cordova when others, who have and are privy to more info than we are, have decided otherwise. I’m not going any further on this. Far be it from me to be judge and jury on something I know little about.

I think folks who feel like Sark and Co. didn’t do their homework on this are misplaced. Not saying I’m one way or the other on it, but there’s a reason Lake Travis did not pursue further action. There are clearly two sides to this story

There is no perfect number. But 5 conference champs sounds reasonable so long as the Big 12 doesn't deteriorate even further.

Go to the Co-Op and get some gear. - Walk around the stadium near Bevo Blvd. If you're talking about Austin generally, that's more of a lifestyle choice IMO. In other words, would you want to go to bars and stay out late, or go to a nice restaurant with a date, or be outside and exercise, etc. Lots to do in Austin on game weekends, it all depends on who you are and what you like.

That has four old SEC teams making the playoffs (five new ones, including Texas). That would have four from the Big 10. So 9 of the 12 would be SEC-Big 10. Seems more than fair IMO. Of the three schools you mention, you're asking for the 6th and 7th rated SEC team to make the 12-team playoff.

Feels like we're going to go from six... to five... to four... to two soon enough.

This is exactly what I'm wondering. Sark has a history of going heavy with one guy. Does he change it up like he did the end of last season?

Texas needs to find a run-game identity in the red zone this year. They also need to better define what they want from the red-zone passing attack. I felt like Texas preferred the RPO passing game but that's not enough.

One of the expected strengths of the Texas football team in 2024 should be the running back room. But not necessarily in a typical way. There’s not a single back expected to carry the load. There’s no Bijan Robinson expected to be RB1 off the board in the NFL draft. Rather, it’s the cumulative nature of the RB room that has folks hopeful. So I wanted to take a deeper dive on what those aspects, those strengths, are and perhaps take a look at perceived shortfalls, too. I’m in the 9+ win range annually. It’s possible that ups to 10+ annually. I’m just not there yet. I want to see the Horns play a year in the SEC first.

Man, that’s a tough ask. Not saying you’re wrong, just the expectation level is super high.

Let’s see what happens with the in-state crop, too.

The SEC won’t get rid of Texas-OU or Texas-A&M. I know people think it might look like it, but there are other schools similarly situated. Alabama will always play Auburn and Tennessee every year.

I think there are several factors at play. First, winning helps. People like to contribute to winners Second, NIL is no longer “new”. We’re now a couple years in. Three, I think your characterization of where Texas was and where Texas is going is accurate. Early adopters have helped Texas an immeasurable amount. Now One Fund is providing more ways for folks to get involved.

A little bit of NIL news from behind the scenes. The Texas One Fund continues to put its best foot forward to raise NIL funds for Texas student-athletes. I'm told the group is working on a major charity gala set for mid-May. And the venue will be... DKR. The actual field itself. Chris Del Conte began reaching out to major donors late last week. ** Speaking of the One Fund, the group is beginning to attract the interest of a few companies for sponsorships, among them Benchmark Bank, Covert Auto Group and Ticket City. Hat tip to those companies for their sponsorships. One Fund is doing a nice job of reaching out to multiple levels of fandom IMO. Whether it's corporate sponsorships, tailgates at the Sugar Bowl like the one at Manning's (thanks Rick!), or cultivating large donors in unique ways like the gala mentioned above, it's nice to see all Texas fans pulling in one direction when it comes to creating better teams. ** At the town hall last week, Chris Del Conte was asked about whether or not he would be scheduling Big 12 opponents for football in the future. Del Conte stopped short of saying no. But he articulated the theory that it's unlikely the Horns will play any Big 12 teams unless those teams are willing to only play in DKR. The Horns would be unlikely to play any home-and-home series with any Big 12 team. And therein lies the rub. Texas won't be playing any Big 12 teams, unless it's in a bowl game or the CFP. ** His prerogative not to schedule Big 12 opponents should not be taken as a desire to lighten the non-conference schedule overall. Del Conte is telling folks that the Horns should be playing the Ohio States, Michigans and Notre Dames in non-conference play moving forward and will look to schedule such teams well into the future.
