  1. Everybody wants assurances if they pay money to anyone.
  2. Sark always seems to be ahead of the curve. When I read Bobby’s comments it makes me think he isn’t ahead of the curve anymore. How could any coach be ahead of the curve? House settlement says go this way, some schools say no let’s go this way, athlete says I am not happy, so it’s back to the courts again. Texas is not the only school with this problem. That’s the positive side of things. We wait to see what happens to those who are not following the settlement in the courts.
  3. Likely not paying attention to the settlement at all. It all goes back to determining what a player is worth. What school is qualified to determine that? What clearinghouse is qualified to do that? So it heads back to the courts.
  4. Agree on August 1st. The op was talking about flipping guys at a later date like previous years. If they break the contract then any money spent would likely have to be paid back. Who’s going to pay it back for them? Then Texas would have to at least match that NIL to get their services. If that’s the case, then why don’t they do that now? Texas has stepped into numerous blueblood backyards and is finishing second. They have to replace those guys with players of equal talent, and that’s if any of those guys are left. Then they have to explain why they didn’t prioritize them first. Counting on winning and culture to get them to take less NIL this year won’t work. And it’s because they will have already taken money from the school they chose first. And when a player does decide to do that, college sports is back in the courts again. It’s just a big mess now.
  5. Difference is these guys are most likely signing two year contracts that are front loaded for the first year. Totally different than previous years.
  6. Why did you think that? This will go back to the courts again. The settlement did nothing but create more instability. I never understood why it was mentioned so much.
  7. Bobby doesn’t say what he said today if this was the case. I am quite certain he has heard something (frustration). It’s extremely frustrating to put in all the work you can to get a kid, and then somebody comes in at the last minute and essentially eliminates you with money. You think roll with us or get rolled over works with Alabama, Georgia and now Florida? When a recruit is not even picking up the phone anymore it’s concerning, especially when that player has been picking up the phone regularly. It’s a kind way to say stop calling me, it’s over.
  8. He was projected from the third to sixth. Philadelphia, Charlotte, Utah and Washington. He has to start somewhere.
  9. Guys most teams in the lottery are bad teams.
  10. Charlotte, Utah, Washington are all bad. I wanted to see him at the fourth pick, but LaMelo Ball is there. Who wants to play with him?
  11. 26 points a game and 40% from three this year. He definitely likes the team concept aspect, he always wanted it that way. Fitting into the team won’t be a problem. Obviously injuries are a concern, but I think they know that. He can take over if you want him to, but is fine passing to the hot hand.
  12. He’s an unstoppable scoring machine. He shot over 40% from three this year. I think they will be okay. He will miss games, but the guy came back full strength from a ruptured Achilles. They are banking on winning now.
  13. Based on the offers made, Duke will be involved in many of them. Miller is going after elite players. He’s got to win some of the battles.
  14. There is no getting around what was in that decision. Guys will go to the highest bidder, if they want. If we feel we deserve a raise, we ask for it. If we don’t get it we move on. It has been determined that 20.5 is the number (salary cap). Problem is the current athletes do not have any say in that. Litigation will come, so temporarily a current athlete will have to adhere to the rules of a conference, while the litigation continues. Of course a judge may hit pause on this, and things continue as is until the issue is resolved. Either is possible. When does the issue finally get resolved? Who knows.
  15. What’s crazy is even with collective bargaining you can still have strikes. It will be a negotiation for eternity.
  16. I would agree. Anything involving the NCAA is a road to nowhere.
  17. The problem is “what school” is qualified to determine a players worth? They are not qualified to do so, neither is a clearing house or database.
  18. All it means is when is the next court challenge.
  19. Basketball is a revenue sport and getting Toppin last year paid off big time. Many people thought they were crazy. They just gave him another four million. These guys really want to win. A billionaire can do anything he wants. He seems to want Tech to be great in everything, but I don’t think that’s possible. It will never work in football. Talking about paying for twenty two starters and their second team (in case of injury), will never happen. What’s funny is that is how much money it takes to get athletes to go to Lubbock. It literally takes millions to get one player to go there.
  20. Is this the team? Are they still looking for one more player?
  21. The game is constantly evolving. Players are more developed. The regular standard (Princeton offense) has gone away. Forwards and centers have developed guard skills. You want to get into who goes harder in a game? Check out some European leagues. All they know is going hard. Did you expect players to never attempt to learn other skills besides low post play? There are European offenses in basketball at the NBA level and College level. I don’t see pansies when I look at Joker, Luka, etc. The game will continue to evolve.
