  1. Based on what exactly? The 12 pass attempts Sayin has had in his career to this point? 😂
  2. A new coach has about 2-3 years to start having solid seasons (10+ wins) and about 5 years to start winning titles (conference or national). Georgia won the SEC in Kirby’s second year and made the national title game. That gave Kirby some leeway for a few years before crossing the finish line. Ohio State has been on a trajectory of one national title every ten years since 2002. Their fans and program want more frequent championships, but one every 10 years is a better rate than 90%+ of programs. On top of that, they’re perennially in the mix for conference titles and have finished national runner up several other times. That is enough to sustain recruiting. Oregon has been consistently in the mix for conference titles since Chip Kelly and has made the national title game- that plus daddy warbucks is enough to sustain recruiting. Michigan’s recruiting wasn’t ever stellar- they just recruited good enough, developed and retained so that they had good enough talent and exceptional experience, plus they didn’t have to play a very tough schedule (except for tOSU). Plus Connor Stallions. Alabama won a national title in Saban’s 3rd year and 3 in his first 6 years. A fairly incomparable situation, wouldn’t you say? The Aggies are actually exactly the modern program/recruiting nightmare that can happen when the recruiting blank checks run out before you capitalize on quality recruiting classes with conference or national titles. IMO, we need to at least make the title game with Arch. Preferably this year.
  3. The key thing to consider is what will happen to our recruiting if we don’t win a national championship with Arch. It will be easy for detractors to then say about Texas, “if not now/then, then when”. And they have legitimate room to say that. For a very long time, the overall perception of Texas is that we fail to live up to lofty expectations. If we fail to win with Arch, that will be another data point that fits the narrative. At this point, the longer it takes Sark to win a championship, the more people will be convinced that the answer to the question of “if not now, when?” is “never”.
  4. I wasn’t clamoring for him to be fired, but at that point I viewed it as a win-win. Similar to OU’s situation this year.
  5. Really enjoyed his 3rd and Longhorn episode. Great guy. Will definitely be rooting for him- Kansas is my personal least hated (and therefore favorite) Big12 team. It was never their fault that they beat and embarrassed us the times they did.
  6. Can finally get rid of the VHS tapes!
  7. Nah they probably got it right. Barry Sanders is obvious, and Hershel Walker rushed for over 1500 yards with close to 150 YPG three straight seasons in a more respected league. Earl Campbell was a better pro though.
  8. I’ll clarify this to say I think Tebow probably had a better offense around him. Our defense was probably as good or better than Florida’s.
  9. Brock Bowers is heavy recency bias. I’d still take VY over Tebow. Tebow had a better overall team around him and Vince wouldn’t have been denied a conference or national championship in his final year like Tebow was.
  10. This is textbook CYA- the university announces a thorough investigation and “self-sanctions” if it comes to that, to nip it in the bud and head off an NCAA investigation. If there was evidence that he placed CFB bets on an actual betting site (legal or otherwise), that would be much more serious.
  11. I’m concerned for any offense that has to go against our defense. 🤘
  12. I don’t think there will ever be another Saban-Bama. He had like 7 back to back #1 recruiting classes, and like 10 in a 13 year span. It’s just literally impossible to do that in the NIL era anymore, especially with the NIL oversight they’re trying to implement. The main reason Bama was as dynastic as they were was talent hoarding, which can’t be done anymore.
  13. No- McElroy was HS Class of 06, year behind Colt. A junior when we played them
  14. Speaking of Metallica, I always thought this is a pretty badass song for road teams: https://youtu.be/cwPg8gJq_Kw?si=nGhZvoO-6rCJ-xk2
  15. If anyone except Brian Kelly was coaching LSU, this would really make me root for them vs Clemson
  16. Carrington Byndom- had a INT return TD in the TAMU game in 2011
  17. I honestly hope it’s Sayin. The other guy seems to be more mobile. Assuming our pass rush will be a strength, I’d rather go against the less mobile QB.
  18. Thinking about all of these guys is incredible. We’ve truly gotten to the point where the program is pumping out memorable legends at a high rate again. My favorite is Anthony Hill. Haven’t had a dominant LB like him on the field since Derrick Johnson. Feels like we’ve had stars at every position in that timeframe except LB. I thought Malik Jefferson was gonna be that but underwhelmed imo. There have been highly serviceable guys, but no Butkus level guys until Hill. Anthony Hill Jr has made it look cool to play LB at Texas again. Even teamed up with Derrick Johnson to recruit Tyler Atkinson. LB is a devalued position these days, but imo no truly elite defense I’ve ever seen has been devoid of at least one star LB. Hopefully we’ve got that pipeline going now.
  19. Wow it took you a Netflix documentary to realize Kelly is a douche? 😂 Had you just not followed him much or what?? He does very little that isn’t douchey. 😂
  20. As we all know, the national media is essentially divided into Arch-hypers and Arch-detractors. I keep hearing many national analysts on the detractor side essentially refer to Arch Manning like he is comparable to a standard first year starter in college football. "Texas has a first year starter at QB, you know how that can go", etc. Before diving into any stats, hearing that just caused some cognitive dissonance for me because right off the bat so many caveats come to mind when thinking of comparing Arch Manning to a first year starter. But I wanted to do an actual comparison with research and statistics, so that's what this post is for. For the sake of this, let's completely ignore that Arch is a Manning. Just an anonymous college QB. What are the objective characteristics of this QB that can be compared to current and former QBs across the country? 1. Former 5* recruit 2. Had to sit behind another former 5* recruit that already had a year of starting experience 3. Doesn't transfer to another program 4. Racks up quality game time experience in 2 years in backup capacity 5. Isn't the week one or season-majority starter until Year 3 or later So, to begin my comparison, I considered criteria #1, #3 and #5 and looked for former 5* recruits that eventually started at the program they signed with out of HS, but not until year 3 or later. I used 247 recruit rankings and went back to the 2010 class (earliest available on 247). Surprisingly, other than Arch, there have only been 3 other former 5* QBs that fit these criteria: Max Browne (USC), Davis Mills (Stanford) and Ty Simpson (Bama). Next, I was curious about how these players compared to Arch for criteria #2 and #4. #2. Who started ahead of Browne, Mills and Simpson? How much experience relative experience did they have? Browne: Cody Kessler, former 4* recruit with zero years of starting experience prior to Browne's first year on campus(2013) Mills: KJ Costello, former 4* recruit with zero years of starting experience prior to Mills' first year on campus (2017) Simpson: Jalen Milroe, former 4* recruit with zero years of starting experience prior to Simpson's first year on campus (2022) #4. How do the stats prior to being the week one or season-majority starter stack up? I'll add up all stats from the other 3. The Field: 0 Starts, 40/71, 56% completion, 524 yds passing, 0 passing TDs, 0 INTs, 148 yds rushing, 3 rushing TDs Arch: 2 Starts, 63/95, 66% completion, 969 yds passing, 9 passing TDs, 2 INTs, 115 yds rushing, 4 rushing TDs Conclusion: Arch Manning is unique to say the least
  21. Did they measure him with his cleats and helmet on or did he have a growth spurt? Nick Saban in 5’6’’
  22. Which of those years did we have a returning All American or Fr All American at all 3 levels of the defense?
  23. 1. Kyler Murray, 2. Mayfield, 3. Cam Newton, 4. Colin Klein, 5. Every OU receiver from 2010 to 2022, 6. Shedeur Sanders
  24. Steve Edmund was a bright spot in a dark time
