A bit off topic... Gerry, did you ever cover TJ Ducketts recruiting? I think he landed with Saban at MSU as a linebacker but quickly transitioned to running back. His brother Tico wasnt as big or talented but was solid for MSU at rb in the early 90's. Reminds me of Joe Paterno telling Eddie George he's not a running back, he's a linebacker leading him to go to Ohio State. Your article on Derrek Cooper where he was learning the game everywhere not knowing he was most prioritized as a running back until his junior year made me think of those prior recruitments. With Coopers focus solely on RB, his upside is unlimited.

I honestly hope they do just line up and run by them this week a bit. Get Wingo going however you can and put up enough points to get the backups in early limiting the risk of injury to starters. The youngsters need to see live bullets too and the team needs to prove that they are capable of just lining up and embarrassing a team because we haven't seen that yet.

Not a mod but my two cents. The staff limited some of Quinns footwork/mobility limitations by having him in pistol or gun a lot and playing to his strengths with rpo's, quick passes and motioning the rb into and out of the backfield to identify coverages. They utilized his short and intermediate passing to get playmakers the ball in a position to run. Short anticipatory throws became Quinns best asset. Arch improved in game 2 but is still having issues with his feet as he's spreading too far at times and rather than gathering and driving the ball he's throwing off balance causing inaccuracy. I personally think it's just adjusting to game speed, timing and getting experience. Some of the bad mechanics like you said were due to late recognition and then rushing to make up for what he saw late. Even his touchdown to Endries in the seam was a little bit late, thankfully it was the parting of the red sea. All in all I think Arch is going to improve at an incredibly fast rate as the season goes on, just needs to keep gaining rapport with his guys and getting more reps. He seems to be a slow starter that once he adjusts to the speed does great. Hopefully he can come out of the gates firing more often the rest of the year.

Arch is playing like a home run hitter. Great ability to hit bombs but need to work on simple things to truly maximize the talent.

Unless there's an absolute home run of a hire I think he'd be safe. The turnover due to transfers and recruits de-committing would dig that hole deeper. They need to weather the early storm and find stability as he recruits his guys and his players/jell. Sark did worse in an awful conference his first two years but I'm glad he's Texas HC for sure.

Always sad to see legal issues even when its players from other programs. Hopefully he can overcome this and still have a stellar Longhorns career.

The biggest concerns about Florida this year is that the game is in their house, their starting freshman QB and RB from last year look like NFL talents and have another year of development at the collegiate level which should show significant growth, and lots of their WR and defensive back depth were injured last year vs Texas. Texas' Captain insane-O type beating on Florida last year might have been my favorite game of the season because it was one of the few where my expectations were far surpassed in a good way by the offense. I expect an inspired Florida team to bring their best game at home and for it to look much different leaning on the run game of Baugh with a healthy second year Lagway. They, like most Texas opponents will try to set up a shortened game running clock. Texas will win if they play like they should, but I felt the same way about the Ohio State game. Don't sleep on a healthy Gator team at home.

I agree. A few things I'd like to see out of Manning in these non con games is : 1) Two minute drill - If I were Sark I'd try my best get Arch an opportunity to hold onto the ball and score a touchdown without giving the opposing team an opportunity with any time left on the clock. Best if able to receive the second half snap and put together timely back to back scoring drives. 2) Pre snap adjustments - identifying Mike linebacker, lots of communication with his line and receivers, possibly even checking out of a call into something entirely different, especially in red zone. 3) Patience - I'm not saying sit on the ball and don't throw it if wingos in press man with no help over the top, but I'd like to see him allow routes and concepts to develop more when applicable. The Ohio State defense seemingly dictated where Arch was going with the ball. With patience he can adequately and accurately decipher the appropriate lapse in coverage rather than taking what the defense wants him to have. He got lured in like a mouse to cheese and was caught in too many traps versus Ohio State. 4) Leadership - it was a tough environment but Arch looked like he was on rogue products after a night on 6th street. I'd like to see more vocal leadership and fire from him like we saw at times last year. It was a different animal when he could come in off the bench and go wild in limited snaps inspiring and motivating his teammates. How does he inspire and lead this group week to week, play to play. Each player leads differently, I'm excited to see his approach and growth leading this team before SEC play. Can't wait to see his journey in hopes the final destination is a Championship before he heads to the NFL whenever that may be.

Just odd that the freshman wr malachi toney for Miami came out like gang busters vs Notre dame with 6 for 82 and a touchdown and sark is saying lockett, ffrench, butler, Terry are behind niblett who didn't get an offensive snap even with Mosley out. I'd expect these guys to sound more promising in their development. Hopefully he proves me wrong but his best guys have been transfers with established skillsets.

Is Chris Jackson an issue?

I felt they tried option one and will continue to develop iterations on top of it. It was relatively basic and plays were there that Arch simply missed. I don't think its a talent issue, simply an execution issue. This team is going to be elite.
