Bunk Moreland Posted yesterday at 04:19 AM Posted yesterday at 04:19 AM (edited) Not sure about the rest of yall, but I need a break from the relentless pessimism and sniping. This thread is for good vibes only. Wanna post AI-generated images of Gerry covered in mayo? Go for it. Want to make five straight posts of nothing but the same meme over and over? Be my guest. Want to discuss the Texas roster in a way that doesn’t devolve into histrionics? Let’s do it. But if you violate the good-vibes-only clause, you’re going on the list. If you want to panic about the portal, please go back to the freakshow happening in the Sunrise thread. I’ll start: I think we are one OLB/edge like Damon Wilson/Jayden Woods and one high-level safety like Earl Little away from being locked and loaded at DL and secondary. DL feels like it could be an upgrade. Secondary, not sure. Can Mascoe come anywhere near Manny M? I’m skeptical, but definitely like what’s out there on him. So we’ll see. Can D Williams get back on track after two very forgettable years? We need him to be that future first rounder Sark projected. Not sure we have anyone on the roster who can replace Taaffe. Logan Mueller Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I wish they still had spring games. So people can see the talent that we have on the roster and not freak out when we miss on one commit. Sark will find a way to get guys we need. 2 1 Quote

I think one thing that is also being missed among all the anxiety to sign a team of all-stars at each position is that this team was extremely close. The offense was finally hitting some peaks, the OL was holding up pretty okay despite its obvious flaws, and the D completely shut A&M down. We are patching up the D and I feel very confident that Muschamp will pull in at least one high-level LB. As high as our expectations were for the 2025 D, it wasn’t even close to as dominant as we expected it to be. All we need is for the pass D to marginally improve. On offense, we don’t need the 1990s Dallas Cowboys OL—we need marginal improvements. Baker and Goosby will be better versions of themselves. The real question is, can we find an upgrade over Hutson? I think the answer is clearly yes. Can we find an upgrade over Campbell? That might be more dicey. So, put another way: can we find one really good IOL in the portal and another 1-2 that are at least marginal upgrades over Hutson/Robertson? I feel optimistic. I still think we can come away with an upgrade at RB. Wisner and Baxter, as much as I loved them, were incredibly inconsistent. There are 3-4 guys still in the portal (maybe more to come, eg Haynes) that would be upgrades. Again, this is fine margins. If we can marginally upgrade our roster at key positions, it means we will have put ourselves in a position to get back to the playoff and more. Edited 23 hours ago by Bunk Moreland 3 Quote

Especially with the spring portal closing, we won’t really get much of a look at the new players or what the team looks like holistically for some time. 1 Quote
TexasOnTop Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I think Bobby said it best tonight. The staff hasn’t really missed on anyone that declared for the portal besides the Michigan guard (and another option immediately presented itself). There is no reason to be doom and gloom. Im calling my shot, I think Texas ends up with Woods, Coleman and 2 proven starters on the O Line before the week is over. Just based on how Sark and Brandon Harris tried to money whip Chris Henry Jr right before signing day, I think that shows how aggressive they’re trying to be on getting a true WR1. 6 Quote
DiggsTX Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Bobby and Jeff hinted on the livestream that they've heard we COULD fill up on OL by the end of the week if the staff wanted to. They are swinging for the elite right now. If we need the next level down, we can get it. 3 Quote

I suspect you are correct. It will be very interesting to see if any playoff teams lose OL or RB after this week. I also think we win out on Coleman. The money is comparable everywhere unless Tech dramatically ups the ante. He’s been very clear that he’s looking for a platform and the best QB he can find. I’ve gotta believe that Arch and Sark made an impression. Could be wrong, but I think he eventually commits to Texas. 1 Quote

We need at LEAST a marginally better line than we had by the end of the season. Obviously getting Arch killed and failing at run blocking next year would mean this portal was a disaster. But I can live with slightly better than we ended the year if we can upgrade at WR and RB too. 1 Quote

When we had the #1 class and we had that terrible recruiting month around the 4th I asked Gerry if we would even finish top 10 and than we ended up with 1 and I felt like a dumbass 2 Quote

I think one thread on Coleman that's gone under-discussed (if it has been at all, I've missed it—quite possible!) is his relationship with holmon wiggins. What a lot of us see as a negative against what aggie offers (a truly humiliating promotion of an position coach to unproven, first time OC) might actually be a positive in Coleman's book and what's keeping them competitive. In HS, Coleman was committed to Bama and wiggins as their WR coach; then Wiggins went to aggie, and Coleman's decision came down to aggie (follow Wiggins) or Auburn (stay home). So that's a long-term relationship. He's chosen against it before, obviously, and could well do it again. But I think that's a factor that's been under-discussed. Quote

Sidenote: bama has such a talented, proven, and crowded WR room. Obviously that's not a problem for Coleman lol, but surely if he goes there, we'll see a defection into the portal from a difference-making caliber WR who's currently there Edited 22 hours ago by AZ Longhorn 2 Quote

Also feels a bit short-sighted to choose A&M because of that relationship since (a) Wiggins wouldn’t be his position coach anymore and (b) he’d be betting everything on a guy who’s never called plays before. But I get that relationships can mean everything. 1 Quote

Bunk Moreland Posted 22 hours ago Author Posted 22 hours ago Interesting comment by Bobby on the livestream that, assuming R Brown were to sign with Texas, the second back might be someone that no one is talking about yet. Not sure if he has someone specific in mind or if he’s just speculating about how it might all go down. Quote

AS bad as some of the post are on here from the people that apparently think they know more than our coaches are irritating. All fan bases have them , Listening to Finebaum yesterday, Bama fans are wanting to run off whole athletic department and saying live on air to tell the team to transfer, all of them. I think a lot of the negative post on here are Aggie , Sooner Trolls. 3 Quote
