Without a *Portal starter, Chatman, Sikorski, Coleman, and Cojoe (eventually) will likely be competing for the open Guard spot. We should be able to get a competent player from those candidates.

My post was in regard to the number of times people have complained about new posters in here and the 1 dollar crew sucking, not you specifically. You responded to me so I responded in turn.

I don’t think it’s fair to paint the whole $1 crew with a wide brush. The frustration that I think some have (and that I had initially) is that OTF started out as a fairly small, tight-knit community with a culture that was generally more easy-going and amiable. For many of us, that’s a big reason we left other sites like IT and OB—to escape the toxic board culture. Almost immediately after the $1 special started, there was an influx of users from those other sites who seemed to embody their toxic cultures. It’s clearly not fair to attribute that to everyone. And you’re completely right that growth is good because, ultimately, this is a business. Many of us are just protective of what we have here. But no reason for us to also not be welcoming and embrace a growing board. So, welcome!

Yea I definitely get that. I’m new to all of these boards, I found OTF on Spotify and liked their content and then joined for a year right when the special started lol. From what little I’ve picked up, this seems to be the best of the boards. I love the guys and their content so I’m here to stay. I think when you get a influx of members there will be some bad apples, and I was annoyed as well with how much people were complaining, I just didn’t like the ‘1 dollar crew sucks’ narrative. But thank you!

I just don't understand why we didn't go after that guard Alou or whatever his name was. Even if the staff didn't think he was better, he still would've provided depth and competition. The staff overplayed their hand and got called on it. But whatever, we are here now and there is nothing we can do about it. I still trust Sark because of how far he's brought this program. But I don't blindly trust him like I used to.

It seemed like they preferred Jordan Church and were trying to bring him in for a visit, but were too late. I had no problem with the swing for the fences strategy, but by the time the portal was almost closed, it should’ve been time to cut their losses and go all-in on a second-tier guard like Church. I think they overplayed their hand. Too focused on landing a big fish and not agile enough in pivoting.

Prior to Cojoe getting injured I remember a lot of smoke about him pushing Baker out at right tackle last fall. When he gets healthy he will be a factor imo

I guess in the era of the portal nobody believes development of younger guys is a thing anymore. Hard to imagine how anybody coming up gets a chance with this mindset. You don’t know what the next man up can do if he’s never given the chance to be the next man up
