UPDATE after Sunday's game via Jeff: After the game, Schloss said that Jonah banged up his shoulder in the Friday game. It was the same shoulder he previously injured.

As you’ve seen, Jonah Williams hasn’t been in the lineup this weekend for Texas baseball’s home series against USC Upstate. OTF is working on gathering details of why the sophomore outfielder has been absent from the lineup, but we're told he was still an active participant with the baseball team.

As it pertains to Monday’s start of spring football, OTF is told the focus will remain on baseball for Williams and if he is at football practice on Monday, it won’t be as an active participant due to the “time spent” NCAA rules that allot how much of an athlete’s given week can be centered around athletics.

Williams still partakes in football meetings as much as he can, but baseball has been the primary focus in his second season with the Longhorns.

We'll continue to update this thread as we learn more.

Thanks so much @Hank South! Even just passing on that yall don’t know yet. I continue to be surprised/frustrated with the secrecy of the parties around everything Jonah related (What was injured? What is the plan starting tomorrow? Etc)

Also I’m wondering what that limit is and what counts (baseball games you don’t play in? All the time “around” the games? Recovery work? Etc) so we can crunch the numbers lol

I’ll believe that Jonah is a factor when he actually gets in the gridiron and does anything.  Until then, he’s a poor man’s Colton Vasek.

The time rule is weird with dual sport athletes because there's different times allotments for in season and offseason which makes it tricky because he's in season in one and off in the other. We're working to get some more clarity on it today!

He did play Friday and went 0-3. I wonder if he's just getting lost in the shuffle as coach Schloss tries to find the right lineup for SEC play next weekend?  Seems we have 7 guys that have locked up daily starter roles and 2 spots left for 3-5 guys that have all had moments

edit: also, injured shoulder per Jeff

Kinda frustrating considering he dove for a foul ball he really had no shot at and came up a foot short. At least that appeared to be when he hurt it as he got up slowly.

For his sake, I hope he has someone to objectively council him. His body keeps telling him that it can’t handle 2 sports. Hell, don’t know if it can handle one sport. Kinda sounds like when J Whitt he first joined. He needed to change how he lifted etc, if I remember correctly.

I still think he needs to pick a sport. He has been a non factor in both so far.

This.

Sad for such a tremendous athlete.

The days of being an elite athlete and that being what makes up for the hours spent perfecting the craft are gone. Everyone that starts in the SEC in these two sports are elite athletes and they spend all of their effort to be the best at a single position. We will never see another Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders. Even they had to pick a sport at some point.

Well, it appears he certainly has a willing council to counsel him here on the internet.

Good luck to the young man, whatever he decides.  I love his enthusiasm and think he'll make it in one of the sports, and I think he will have a tough decision to make.
