Oregon, LSU, Florida, Aggie, Bama , lost today also. We flat gave one away today no question . Myself, I am hoping the team don't give up like their fan base. All true. Our problems are much less pressing than all but about half a dozen teams. Special teams, penalties and Arch's mistakes are definitely frustrating. All of these can be fixed. Play calling is not a problem. 1 Quote
AusMOJO Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I just realized that Sark is now 3-3 in this game and 2-2 with Venables. 1 Quote

whereiend Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Its wild that Sark actually thinks him being his own OC is in the best interest of the program. The dude is completely delusional. How many years of mediocre offense with elite talent until he realizes he can't do both of these jobs? Quote

The best NFL head coaches have called their own plays since the league began. Why do college fan bases think their head coach can't call plays? In fact, the best play callers in the NFL are head coaches (Shanahan, McVay, Reid, Johnson). This doesn't mean Sark is the best play caller now, but it certainly doesn't mean it can't be done. Quote

This system sucks and is poorly coordinated, independent of the play calling on Saturday. 1 Quote

Special teams and Arch lost the game, not offensive coordination. You can certainly argue that many of Arch's mistakes ultimately land at Sark's feet, but that doesn't mean the "system" sucks. Quote

I can't say for certain why it works or doesn't work in the NFL, but there's plenty of evidence that it hasn't typically worked in college. Is it possible a college head coach has more day to day responsibilities than an NFL coach? Like recruiting for instance. Quote
HawkDriver Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Sark calls an offense his team cannot support. The o-line can’t support deep route concepts and arch can’t throw shorter routes. We could run the ball, but that’s hard out of 2nd and 10. It looks, to me anyway, the team should be a 60/40 run team with passes built off of that, but sark isn’t willing to do it. So what you get is a clunky poorly timed offense with no rhythm. 1 Quote

Perhaps, but the level of skill, complexity and attention to detail required for daily preparation and practice are certainly much greater in the NFL. That's certainly just as time consuming as worrying about recruiting. Having said that, people who think Saban and Kirby didn't call their own defense during their respective championship seasons are smoking something illegal. They may not have officially claimed to call the plays, but you can be your house that they did. Edited 1 hour ago by harveycmd Quote

I think Sark's system makes playing college football way too difficult. Arch is put in very difficult positions on a regular basis. I'd like to see a system that makes life easy for the players instead. I also think the execution is just very poor game after game, season after season. The play calls often work on paper, but the players just can't get it done. Well guess what, that is Sark's job: to get the players to execute the damn play. No doubt about special teams. Banks is an even bigger blind spot for Sark. Another thing that sucks game after game, season after season. 1 Quote
Dr. Love Posted 58 minutes ago Posted 58 minutes ago It was a butt kicking that Sark needed. There needs to be some changes to the offensive philosophy and unfortunately I think this is the only way those changes take place. Quote
harveycmd Posted 55 minutes ago Posted 55 minutes ago When the OC/play calling thing comes up, Sark always says he was hired to call plays. That being the case, he isn't going to stop unless the people who can fire him tell him to stop. I suspect Sark wants to be a play calling head coach in the NFL one day, and that won't happen if he stops calling plays in college. That means the only option is to fire him if you don't want him to be the OC/play caller. That's clearly unreasonable at this point. Banks as special teams coordinator is a different story. 1 Quote

Who said a coach can't call plays? I just think Steve Sarkisian is a bad offensive coordinator right now. I'd have no problem with him calling plays if he was a good coordinator, but he isn't. Imagine how bad Mack Brown would have been if he insisted on being his own offensive coordinator? We're not quite there but damn it gets closer every year. Quote

Not even close. Arch gave them ten points and Banks gave them seven. That's what lost the game, not the offense. Quote

Yea that quote really scares me, I'm not going to lie. In theory I like the idea of CEO coach Sark, but I think he may be too delusional and narcissistic to ever give us that. Quote
