Thoughts on the ugly loss

It's 3-2 against Venables, but the two losses are mind numbing.

Oh, that's right because Riley was only here in '21 and left that off-season. Thanks for the correction.  It won't let me edit the post, unfortunately.

Thoughts on the ugly loss 1. It’s a horrible freaking loss. No sugarcoating. Period. There are few feelings in sports worse than feeling like you gave a game away.  2. Going into the game, T

Shoutout @CJ Vogel for straight up asking Sark about giving up play calling duties. 🐐behavior.

  • Banks and flood should be left on the tarmac. Connor should not be out starting center. Just a pathetic performance. This is as bad as the Kansas loss to me absolutely pathetic and sark legit said he

Sark beat the hell out of Stoops in prime in the 2004 title game, and he was 30 at the time.

sark wasnt coaching then for them

It was asked earlier in the season: If not now, when?  Great defensive and terrific talent everywhere. When do we bench Arch?  What if we let KJ take the reins?  Arch isn’t ready to move on to the NFL, and KJ can’t sit another year. What if KJ could show his mettle now with the offensive talent, and Arch continues to learn his craft and compete with Dia next year.

Not going to happen

The most popular player at Texas is always the backup QB

Honest questions?

Is Sarks scheme just to complicated for the college game?  Less experienced players, reduced time to learn as Sark has both offensive coordinator and head coaching duties?

Does the finesse style Texas plays offense have long enough legs to continually compete in a line of scrimmage conference?? Should there be more emphasis on power running schemes and less window dressing?

We are just about to the middle of the season...has this offense regressed over the past 2 seasons?  If so...what neess to be done to put the train back on the track??

Is this defense special teams and offense complimentary to each other???

Much improved OL play...WRONG

sark an offensive guru... WRONG

Arch a Hesiman candidate... WRONG

Arch 1st overall pick.... WRONG

We will be more disciplined... WRONG

Oh there is more

It starts with execution and discipline. The penalties, stalled drives, and offensive inconsistency are unacceptable for a team with this much talent and experience. Simplify the offense, establish the run, and give up play calling. When the same problems keep showing up, it’s a coaching problem. Elite head coaches delegate and adapt. Sark has repeatedly shown he’s unwilling to do either. Unfortunately, Texas is paying the price.

Couple of things.

Discipline is a real problem for Texas.  Recurring theme.

Leadership lacking.  Recurring.

Bad playcalling.  Recurring.

Poor offensive line play.  Recurring.

Accountability.  Special Teams both players and coaches.  Same players making same or similar mistakes on every part of the team. Offense Defense and Special Teams.  Our best players and leaders cant make silly mistakes and blow it off.  Simmons last week PF kept drive alive, jumped offsides tonight.  Biles PF on an interception allowing drive to continue and give up points.  Arch handing out game balls  to the gooners gift wrapped.

Here is the one that really bothers me.  The last 2 QBs at Texas were both 5 star athletes and ranked 1 in their respective class.  With the time that both had on the 40 would anyone say that they were developed to the expected level?  Same issue with OL specifically Guards and Center.  The good is that atleast WRs and DL are where they should be or ahead.

QB facts…

I think yes on the complexity. Or we're just bad at teaching it in practice. But in any case the single biggest problem is the players don't consistently execute the plays.

Hard to be physical if you aren't first 100% sure what you are supposed to be doing.

It's Sark's scheme. Just to be clear.

Agreed a very different scheme.  Real question tho.  Did the Horns give up a little early on him.  This team definitely needs leadership...a trait that CJ was known for.

Tough call there IMO

I think CJ needed a change of scenery, and he wasn't healthy enough last year.

I'm a huge fan of CJ Baxter. Hope he makes it to the NFL and sets up his life. Great dude. Real leader as you alluded to.

In regards to the playoff committee, this loss will hurt us like the Florida one did last year. OU is not a good team and will rack up more losses. If we have 3 losses we will be in a similar dilemma we were in last year because the committee has shown they only care about how many losses you have and who you lost to. They don't care who you've beaten.

I hope they understand that and the urgency is at code red.
