TexShoe Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago OL, OL, OL. Our OL is and has been a complete disgrace. We did have Banks and Cam Williams, but the only reason we got those two was because Cristobal took off for Miami last minute. Goolsby was a diamond in the rough 3 star guy that everyone missed. Us and A&M were his only 2 big offers. Without a functioning OL, all the weapons we have will continue to go to complete waste. Quote

He needs to replace the OL and special teams coaches and probably hire an OC. Look at our defense. They show what can be assembled when you have UT's resources playing in the SEC in big games every week. There is no excuse for us to not have one of the best OL's in football. Whether it's selection of the players, their development, or their scheme, that's all on Flood (and Sark). It's not Sark as a play caller that is the issue but rather that a team at this level deserves an OC that spends 24/7 coming up with ways to beat the next team's defense. Recruiting, fund raising, interviews, etc are too much. Serious question, but does an ultimatum end up working out? At the end of the day if you’re a head coach that can’t operate the team the way you want then how are you going to be successful? I think he has to willingly make the changes you mentioned or Texas should move on. People will say there aren’t better options, but you can’t keep doing the same thing each year and hope for the best. Not with the amount of NIL this program spends. Quote
Ryan Clement Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago At seasons end regardless of what happens banks needs to be given one task and we need to find a legit special teams coach, flood has to be shown the door, and sark should be told to find a young and upcoming OC that he can help with play calling. Sark is really good at designing plays but seems to get in his head for parts of the game and go back to throwing deep all the time instead of analyzing the game and see what's working. Also we need to give muschamp a raise, make him one of the highest DCs. Quote

Yea I mean an "ultimatum" is not required here. You say look Sark, you being your own OC is obviously not working. It's time to bring in the offensive version of Muschamp and step back into purely head coaching role. If Sark still can't see this very obvious picture after what has taken place this season, then we don't want this guy in charge of our program and need to eat the buyout. This should not require any significant convincing. 1 Quote
HawkDriver Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Banks is gone, weirdo aggie. Actually surprised he lasted 2 years with Saban. And you can’t have the means we have and have a bad o-line for this long. Figure it out, good grief. Figuring it out would be start over and get what you need for next year. Dont care about sark calling plays or not, but put someone in the booth that could call plays. Quote

If his options are give up playcalling or stop making $11 million a year, I’ll bet you which one he chooses. I've heard him say it other times even during the off season. He's even said it was the reason he got the job at Texas. I just don't see him giving it up, I've heard him say it too many times. You're also forgetting that Texas still owes him a large buyout and he could easily get another less stressful job if he wants. Just my two cents anyway. Quote
AusMOJO Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago 3 hours ago, whereiend said: That's ridiculous dude. There is very little chance Sark is the play caller next year. You have to be kidding me if you think CDC and those funding our NIL operation are going to sign up for another year of Sark's horrible coordination of the offense. If Sark keeps his job (fairly big if given we likely lose at least two more games), there will be a coordinator hired for sure. CDC gets literally zero say in any of this lol. He's a mouth piece, that's about it. Quote

Refusing to give up play calling when it’s clearly not working isn’t leadership, it’s ego getting in the way of what’s best for the program. Well he's had plenty of time to find someone to run the offensive side of the ball and hasn't. So I'm just going off what he's said and his own actions. Now apparently someone told me he gave up play calling at USC but who really knows. I guess we'll see what happens in the off-season. 1 Quote

I'm just saying that outside of a miracle where this mediocre team wins out, there is zero chance that the decision makers sign up for more of the same on offense next year. In my opinion If Sark is back at all (not a given), it will be with an OC. Quote

He would just tell them to go find another job. It’s funny that the same people who claim Sark has some “huge ego” also believe he would walk as the head coach at Texas so he could go call plays at NC State or some such. That doesn’t compute. He’s going to do what it takes to continue being the head coach at Texas, even if it means having tough conversations. Quote

Then it’s off to the Lacey / Dia era with little change to the putrid multi year issues at OL and running game. Maybe Lacey or Dia help early on with their legs in 2027 before they get that coached out of them too. With no running game and no OL to count on we go on another frustrating September and October of inconsistent poorly managed football and eventually the roars from donors spending millions on the program grow louder than the ability to pin losses on quarterbacks. Sark resigns and Major Applewhite triumphantly returns to Austin as head coach with Muschamp as DC in the ironic twist of all ironic twists. Texas goes on to win back to back natties. Wow, that's a doomsday prophetic post. Unfortunately, I share some of that same pessimism you feel. However, I see Texas going for a Bob Chesney/Curt Cignetti type of coach next time, and not a legacy like Major. R tried that before with McWilliams and it didn't turn out so well. Quote

Grant Ward Posted 19 minutes ago Posted 19 minutes ago I think there is a real disconnect between Arch and Sark. Not personally, but scheme-fit-wise. Arch is not a great fit for Sark's offense. I get the rumors that the Mannings want Arch to be that guy, a facilitator who can diagnose defenses and get the ball out. Arch isn't that guy, not yet. Does the Texas brass have the patience to allow Arch and/or Sark time? If Arch continues to run as he has, he is going to get KO'd, and he runs the real risk of KJ Lacey looking better. Quote
mmdaytontexas Posted 12 minutes ago Author Posted 12 minutes ago 10 hours ago, whereiend said: Sark as an OC is like Manny Diaz was when he was at Texas. The "play calls" might be good on paper but they are also absolutely delusional. The team has clearly demonstrated it cannot execute Sark's preferred offensive scheme for multiple years now. You can't call a play that we fail to execute 80% of the time and then act shocked when we screw it up yet again. You are right about a 24/7 OC, but we also need a new scheme that is easier for college players to execute. This scheme just plain sucks. Then it is poorly coached on top of that lol. I disagree with this. The scheme is not that difficult or different from other RPO offenses. When you have an OL that cannot run or pass block well if a defense gets creative, and QBs who digress in their abilities over their UT tenure, then no scheme you give them, no matter how simple, is going to work.
