How does this relate to the standings shown during the softball games of men’s and women’s programs. Texas only shows up on the women’s but not near the top.

how does that translate to being #1 overall?

They were showing Capital One Cup standings there, iirc.  Capital One Cup has a scoring structure which separates men and women, and splits values into popular high-profile sports (Group B) and lower-profile sports (Group A) but it still seems pretty arbitrary (lacrosse and gymnastics are high-profile, swimming, golf, tennis are low-profile).    The weight given to national champions over 2nd place is pretty severe.  I think it's a load of crap, but whatever.  Texas women should move way up after taking softball.

Also, only the top 10 teams in each sport get points.

So, Men's hoops gets no credit for their sweet 16 run. Football, nadda for being ranked 13th etc. The weighting of certain sports and the complete drop off in credit after 10th place can really bias things.

It has become increasingly likely that Texas wins its 5th Directors' Cup. Almost unfathomable that we don't win it all. Stanford needs an near miracle to add any points at all and even if they win 4 out of 4 events they are entered in, Texas wins the cup with a measly 34th place finish in Track and Field. That would require about 10 points in the track meet. If Stanford doesn't add points in Track then we just need one of our teams to score 19 Directors Cup points, which is a 55th place finish and usually only requires 5 points scored in the track meet.

And that is all assuming baseball doesn't add any more points. We will know track results prior to baseball results. This could be wrapped up on Friday after Men's Track goes final.

Inching closer......

Then we get to start all over again!  🤣

Thanks for the updates and the good news!  Is there a best place to see which Horns have a chance to score points in their events for the track meet and follow the outcomes?

Seems like with Footballl, both basketball teams, softball , baeball along with swimming, rowing . We should be way ahead.

Stanford supports about 35 varsity sports Texas only 21. Five sports are required women’s soccer, both women’s and men’s basketball, men’s baseball and women’s softball. The score is decided by the top 19 varsity sports from each school. Texas score 0 in soccer but Stanford scored 0 in both men’s and women’s basketball and baseball.

I hope you don't mind me asking silly questions. When I go to the athletic department's website, I find 17 sports. Are T&F and cross country two separate sports? Are swimming & diving two separate sports? They are listed as one, but that would make 21.

Which two sports are not part of the top 19 for Texas? T&F? Cross country?

Texas has 21 sports, the Directors Cup consists of best 19 sports scores. Men’s and women’s cross country are two separate teams, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, outdoor  track and field are also separated.  That’s 6 sports, Elrick Floreal is HC for all 6.  Hope this helps.

Soccer and women’s cross country. Soccer 0 points is probably why we have a new coach. See my edits to earlier post.

Thanks. I thought women's soccer was one of the 5 sports that had to be included in the 19.

It is which hurts the score but Stanford got 0 points in 3 of required sports both basketball teams and baseball. Both cross country score got dropped but soccer didn’t.
