chennups Posted Saturday at 02:05 PM Posted Saturday at 02:05 PM How does this relate to the standings shown during the softball games of men’s and women’s programs. Texas only shows up on the women’s but not near the top. how does that translate to being #1 overall? Quote

Capital One Cup has a scoring structure which separates men and women, and splits values into popular high-profile sports (Group B) and lower-profile sports (Group A) but it still seems pretty arbitrary (lacrosse and gymnastics are high-profile, swimming, golf, tennis are low-profile). The weight given to national champions over 2nd place is pretty severe. I think it's a load of crap, but whatever. Texas women should move way up after taking softball. https://ecm.capitalone.com/WCM/capital-one-cup/capital-one-cup-scoring-structure-2020-2021.pdf 1 1 Quote

So, Men's hoops gets no credit for their sweet 16 run. Football, nadda for being ranked 13th etc. The weighting of certain sports and the complete drop off in credit after 10th place can really bias things. 1 Quote
DirectorsCupUpdates Posted Monday at 08:09 PM Author Posted Monday at 08:09 PM It has become increasingly likely that Texas wins its 5th Directors' Cup. Almost unfathomable that we don't win it all. Stanford needs an near miracle to add any points at all and even if they win 4 out of 4 events they are entered in, Texas wins the cup with a measly 34th place finish in Track and Field. That would require about 10 points in the track meet. If Stanford doesn't add points in Track then we just need one of our teams to score 19 Directors Cup points, which is a 55th place finish and usually only requires 5 points scored in the track meet. And that is all assuming baseball doesn't add any more points. We will know track results prior to baseball results. This could be wrapped up on Friday after Men's Track goes final. 10 Quote

cocinero Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Thanks for the updates and the good news! Is there a best place to see which Horns have a chance to score points in their events for the track meet and follow the outcomes? Quote
Beldar Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Seems like with Footballl, both basketball teams, softball , baeball along with swimming, rowing . We should be way ahead. Quote

Stanford supports about 35 varsity sports Texas only 21. Five sports are required women’s soccer, both women’s and men’s basketball, men’s baseball and women’s softball. The score is decided by the top 19 varsity sports from each school. Texas score 0 in soccer but Stanford scored 0 in both men’s and women’s basketball and baseball. 2 Quote

When I go to the athletic department's website, I find 17 sports. Are T&F and cross country two separate sports? Are swimming & diving two separate sports? They are listed as one, but that would make 21. Which two sports are not part of the top 19 for Texas? T&F? Cross country? Quote
Paul Jespersen Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago So for Top 10: 5 Big10 schools (3 of which are PAC), 3 SEC, 2 ACC and.... zero Big 12. Got it. 🤘 1 Quote

Men’s and women’s cross country are two separate teams, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, outdoor track and field are also separated. That’s 6 sports, Elrick Floreal is HC for all 6. Hope this helps. Edited 7 hours ago by GoHorns1 2 Quote

It is which hurts the score but Stanford got 0 points in 3 of required sports both basketball teams and baseball. Both cross country score got dropped but soccer didn’t. Right now it is likely that the 2 dropped sports will be W CC (0 points) and M CC (27 points). Possible that W Track and field falters and scores fewer than 27 points and gets dropped. Quote
DirectorsCupUpdates Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago In track, Texas Men advanced both of the hurdlers expected to score big points with podium finishes. They also have a chance at a few Triple Jump points tomorrow. Projected to finish 19th currently Women's Track also advanced our 400m hurdler and surprised a bit with our 4x1 team advancing. Projected to finish 33rd currently. Importantly Stanford W Track is down 1 of their 4 events as they failed to advance in the 1500 m. Their long shot at adding points to their directors cup score is even less likely now. They did win long jump as expected and will have chances to add a few points in high jump and 800m. Unless they win those events, they won't add points. Projected to finish 23rd (need a top 12 to add any points). What this all means is that Texas M Track could clinch the cup tomorrow. They need only 30 Directors Cup points, which is a 44th place finish and is projected to require 6 points scored in the meet. They are projected to finish 19th with 16.5 points scored. One of our two hurdlers needs to deliver. 1 1 Quote
