pskjace Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The OL was always going to regress pretty significantly when you lose your starting center, left guard, right tackle, and left tackle all to the NFL. Not to mention your LT was a top 10 pick and the Center being the most difficult to replace. Outside of having all new starters the biggest issue I see even with improvement is the lack of athleticism at left guard. That is a Charlie Strong level offensive guard. 2 Quote

Atticus Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago You guys really forget how bad the OL was during the Strong/Herman days. This is a solid step back from the last three years, but it is still better than that overall slop. 2 Quote

I suspect a lot of Texas fans will be calling for Sark to be fired soon. I’m not calling for him to be fired at all, but I am of the belief that we may have seen the best of Sark as a coach and program builder. It’s not a given that he’s going to win titles here. When we look back on the Sark era, we may realize that his best contribution to the program was to get it back to a championship “caliber” program. The vast majority of coaches who won titles did so within the first five years of being the coach of the team/program. History shows that if Sark doesn’t do it this season, he probably never will with Texas. Edited 14 hours ago by Forrest J. 1 Quote

I respect your take and it is fair but we do not know this yet. It took Mack longer than 5 years to get there too. The best part we are gonna get to find outl. 1 Quote

Counterpoint, if we beat OSU last year and face ND, and beat UW the year before and face Michigan, maybe he has two. But to your point, we did neither, thanks to the offensive side of the ball. It's not just luck, evolution and growth are needed. Counterpoint, who out there is better suited to keep us in contention? An old Saban, a detestable Urban? I wouldn't even want Day or Dabo. Lanning is unproven. How's DeBoer doing? Let's try Shanahan! Our best bet is for Sark to get over the hump, which to the OP point, may involve tough evals of his inner circle. Quote

If that doesn't buy a coach a little more grace than this, I don't know what does. If Cristobal didn't go to Miami, are Banks and Cam even at Texas? But, he landed the Brocks, so there's always that! Obviously that's great and I'm happy for those guys to make it to the league, but can Flood's group play as one cohesive unit at Texas? Can they avoid the constant false starts and holding calls we've seen every season he's been here? Edited 12 hours ago by LonghornFan4Ever Quote

I’ve never called for Flood to be fired, I’ve always thought he was a strong hire. That said, his track record with elite Oline recruits isn’t where it should be, and the run blocking has been shaky. He’s got to bring in more top-tier talent and get the line playing with greater physicality. It’s fair to say he’s not flawless. 2 Quote

A step up, for certain, but still bad. When was the last time we had our OL just maul people at the LOS and move the pule consistently? When you're struggling to do so against SJSU and UTEP, that is a bad sign. Because the guys you're going to face in the SEC week to week, have much better front 7's than UTEP and SJSU. Even last year they didn't look all that impressive. Quote
