And it could explain why we look less physical than we do. It seems his philosophical change and approach to practice may be the reason we look the way we do physically and most likely mentally. CFB ain’t the NFL brother you don’t have 17 games and make it as a wild card with a 10-7 record(this would be like 9-4 in college).

Also the mentality and maturity of a CFB isn’t that of a pro player

From a March interview:

As a result, the Longhorns will have fewer contact periods and more teach periods with more controlled scrimmages instead of going for 140 plays.

“Just a little bit of a shift philosophically, as I touched on even back in December, actually, when I first brought this up. The NFL model is such that I think that they teach really well, and it’s something as I’ve studied those guys and I’ve gotten around them here the past few years — you guys know I like to do that in the springtime is go see NFL teams — is making sure we’re teaching really well, making sure that we’re developing and growing as a program, and not just our young players, but really developing our older players to be really dialed into the details of what we’re trying to do. And so again, I feel like you have to in this day and age, be adaptable and not be afraid of change and I think this is an area where we can grow as a program to be better suited for the challenges of the schedule as we know what it was here last season,” Sarkisian said.

Yeah, I worried about this back then.  We’ve seen it before with the thud practices and we get soft.  Different regime, I forget which one tried this and same thing happened.  Ironically, this is the year we had the depths to get tough in practice and have a next man up mentality if we needed it.  That was almost our strength cooking into that season.

What are y’all hooking? The post makes zero sense. Sark emphasizes more teaching but that leads to a weaker mentally? Nonsensical.

“Rough” practices are proven more detrimental than helpful. If anything, we have an S&C issue/gap. Sark has the right approach for wear and tear. He over trusted flood, and bo for that matter, and is reaping the consequences. It’s not rocket science.

Nick Saban and all his former players say their practices were harder and tougher physically than the games they played.

you seriously think not hitting and not practicing as physical doesn’t affect you in games?

S&C hasn’t been an issue until this year and it points more toward Sarks philosophical change to go not as physical or hard in practice than it does our S&C program somehow falling off a cliff.

That was in relation to spring practice since it was less than 3 months after the previous season ended.

Fall Camp had the full number of padded practices and normal contact periods.

Fall practice was the same as spring in this relation. This is from someone who is inside the facility that sees more than just a media window:

I’m more concerned about his excuse for losing both his games against real competition. Asking how many teams would go to the swamp and win knowing usf done it a few weeks ago was such a stupid thing to say. Michigan has beaten Ohio st 4 years in a row.

This very site said it was the most physical fall camp they heard about in his 5 years here.

This site also said the offense looked great. I’d trust a guy that sees everything than just a 20 min view window. No disrespect to Bobby or OTF.

This.  OP’s schtick is about as painful as last Saturday.

Dude is a realist what can you say….We saw a lack of toughness on Saturday, Why was that? Do you have a good explanation? Why did we get whipped for four quarters?

He’s wrong in saying OTF said the offense was great in the offseason.  And that’s part of his schtick.

Saban could afford to do that, he had depth like no team has today.

Coaches at every level deal with the tension of developing toughness and physcality while trying to keep players fresh and healthy.

I don't know the answer, but I can see with my eyes that the Texas OL is not physical or playing with toughness right now.

It’s not only that, the IOL literally don’t know who to block. They’re the worst combination: soft and clueless.

A his team has great talented depth too, like what are you talking about? This philosophical change is similar to Mack deciding to completely change the offense after the 09 season. Literally broke what didn’t need fixing.

The first 4 games of the season were played like preseason games. The approach makes sense in a 32 team playoff, it will be interesting to see if Texas ends up 9 - 3, and Florida wins out and is the SEC champion. Does a 9 - 3 Texas get in before a 10 - 2 Notre Dame?

That’s a lot of Ifs. I’m a stop thinking and go take a dump.

Hook Em. Enjoy Today and hope for a win Saturday.

Definitely possible Sark overcorrected on this front but the bigger problem is that we just have bad roster management, blowing a giant budget on mediocre players. Need to professionalize in that aspect of the program. OU and Texas Tech have the right model here, painful as it is to say.

Has anyone told Sark that this isn't the NFL and these players need to be developed and not nurtured? They need to hit and be hit, that is how you develop the work ethic and mentality to make it to the NFL. Survival of the fittest, Iron sharpens iron, you don't sharpen iron with putty.

After reading that, I think the season is lost. I haven't seen both lines get dominated that bad in over a decade. Georgia was close in the first half last year. Florida ain't Georgia, not even close and our Dline didn't get dominated either. That was embarrassing and I hope the players are embarrassed.
