FatherofMinky Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I think it was hard for them to keep him in the rotation with his ball security issues. Running back depth is certainly going to be tested the rest of the season though. Quote
Sundancekid Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Let’s turn Townsend into an H Back/Fullback and get the ball in his hands. Bet he could help in the red zone. 2 Quote
jhookem91 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Good luck to both of them. If he can improve his ball security, I bet Gibson will be a good back in a different scheme. Participation chart at the back of the Kentucky game notes as well as Sports Reference both only list Stone as participating in 4 games (Ohio St., SJSU, Florida and OU according to the participation chart). Good for him that he was able to play vs OU in the Cotton Bowl during his senior year. https://texaslonghorns.com/documents/2025/10/13/Week_8_-_Kentucky.pdf https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/will-stone-1.html Quote

I'm not suggesting they do but curious if portal rules allow? No mid season portal. Any player entering the portal must wait until the January to transfer to new school. Can’t play for two schools in the same season is the rule for all sports. 1 Quote

jhookem91 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago My mistake - you were talking about Gibson playing 5 games, not Stone. That is unusual. https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jerrick-gibson-1.html Quote

TTown Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago He left to preserve his redshirt so totally understand. Pretty sure not playing at Florida was the final straw for him and could see this coming a mile away. Was basically a fullback that had fumble issues. Wish him the best , and hope he gets the fumble thing figured out and has a nice career. Quote
Jaybird Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Gutted for this. My favorite RB on the roster. Really thought he would be our freight train inside zone guy. Writing was on the wall when he didn't get a touch in his hometown. IMO terrible mishandling of the situation by the staff and by the young man himself. Could've easily seen PT this week with a banged-up Wisner and with IT reporting that they do not expect Baxter to return. Just sad all around. 1 Quote

He could get some NIL here. But, for his personal long-term, as a UT graduate and a football letterman, he would have a lot of open doors. He will graduate from I think Texas, he is in his 4th year (assuming he graduates in December). He was really solid for us, maybe the injury is still nagging so he wants the chance to heal and get to start somewhere on both FGs and KOs. Makes sense to me. Shipley did fine on Kos when he had to do them, not too concerned Quote

He’s just not as good as we thought and couldn’t hold onto the ball. Prolly be best he goes to play at a lower level school in florida. Edited 4 hours ago by NothinButDaHorns34 Quote
.45s Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I checked a little while ago and Gibson's name and bio page are still there. Stone's name is on the roster, but his bio page was gone. Quote

Saw him play well multiple times (albeit to just fumble near the end) but I felt as though he was starting to make some hay. Hell, he played great against Sam Houston (who didn't), but for the staff to not even give him a run in his hometown just feels wrong. Especially with how the game was going and you need a spark against Florida. This is not to say I think Wisner is bad, I think he's great at outside zone and I love the toughness he brings but let's not get it confused, he cannot and will not be able to carry the load alone this year and I don't see Simon as a bruiser back. I think with Baxter being hurt you could've run him using some of the same plays (gap and power schemes) we saw them use against Ohio State, Wisner run the outside stuff, and Simon could blend both styles while also being a 3rd down back in the receiving game. Would've preferred to see more push to keep him around through the season. 3 Quote
HudGar1922 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago do we go after another rb in high school or portal now? Quote

AusMOJO Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I know we were expecting Baxter to contribute this year but they also didn't know that he would be ready to go for start of the season. Seems weird we didn't go after a guy like Hardy from ULM to pair with Wisner. It's not like he isn't sharing snaps at Missouri right now. Anyway, wish Gibson all the best. Quote
