Correct. OU has played a non-con SOS similar to ours. Good for them for going 13-0 but their best wins are Michigan and Arizona, both of which are not top 25 teams. We actually rank higher than OU in both KenPom and NET. A&M also is far from unbeatable. They can really struggle to put the ball in the basket at times. We are also playing them while school is out so the atmosphere may not be what it could be.

Well when you are shooting 41.5% from 3 as a team I’d shoot them too.

1) This game was put on the calendar a week ago. Very short turnaround time for people to make plans 2) It is 4 days before Christmas 3) Some fans have ticket buying fatigue. They went to the SEC title game and now have to buy another game + any additional games we play in the playoff? 4) Two Austin area HS teams playing in Arlington doesn’t help but I don’t think that matters too much considering how many people come in from Dallas and Houston for games. I’m sure it will be a sellout or very close to it but there are some things working against Texas.

That sounds like a poor allocation of resources considering the other needs on the team.

Kelby Collins is an edge rusher. My overall point stands. Schools like Georgia and Bama aren’t letting serviceable defensive lineman with no baggage walk away. If Payne had any hope of being a productive player moving forward for Bama he would still be there. He has made very little impact in 3 years. We are in day 8 of the portal. Throwing Hail Mary’s isn’t necessary yet.

5 tackles this year with a fumble recovery against Mercer. I have no interest in taking players who haven’t done anything. I don’t care if other SEC teams are taking our scraps. If Payne was worth pursuing he wouldn’t be leaving a school like Alabama.

I don’t see Murphy being a fit at all for what Auburn wants to do. Hugh Freeze’s management of the portal has been highly questionable his entire tenure.

There isn’t a dominant team in college football and Georgia is really the only team we match up extremely poorly against.

He’s started games this season and has spent basically two full years in the system. If he needs to throw a few second half passes against Kentucky and hand the ball off a bunch to feel ready then we are screwed anyway. He’s had real game reps. This isn't Garrett Gilbert.

Not true. There is a week off between the conference title games and first round. CFP games start December 19th.

Some of reasons he is going pro actually have very little do with play on the field: 1) This is an extremely weak QB class and there are at least 6-7 teams that will be looking to take one relatively early. 2) Sometimes it’s not the worst thing in the world to go in the 2nd or 3rd round to a place where you will get development time instead of going to the Browns in the first round and being thrown into the fire right away with a terrible franchise. 3) He has now missed multiple games with injury in 3 straight seasons. Whether it was bad luck or not, he is going to carry an injury prone tag with some and if he returns and gets hurt again, it’s only going to hurt him more. He has very little to gain from returning. 12 additional games aren’t going to magically ease all the concerns NFL GM’s will already have about him. I don’t know why it’s so damn hard for some to just wish a highly successful QB at Texas well and move on without all the drama and hot takes. I sure wish some of yall had our fanbase looking over your shoulder at work awaiting your next mistake so they can replace you.

You don’t know what their DT allocation is this cycle. Of course DT’s are expensive. I don’t think anyone at Texas thinks otherwise, but if Charles runs up his price so much that it means Texas can’t get the immediate help they also need in the portal, what do you do? Accounting decisions come into play in all these situations. Of course you want 3-4 elite HS DT’s and 2-3 more good portal dudes but the money tree ain’t endless.

This recruitment might be an important lesson in the “just win” recruitnik thinking. Times have changed.
