Georgia Beat Reacts to Muschamp Hire
Michelle Lynn replied to Michelle Lynn's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Love PK, Longhorn legend. He was a HUGE part in bringing us back. Excited to see what Muschamp brings to the table…this is a bold move. Love the fearlessness and cant wait to learn what other moves Sark has up his sleeve. -

I can’t take the PK slander. We are 34-8 the last three years. Over that span, the D has been more impressive than the O. We can be excited for Muschamp, while recognizing PK did a great job. -
Has he been injured in a car wreck?
-
Adam's right - Muschamp is not the Muschamp of '09. He's got 2 more rings 😉

Not a smart take at all

First the Muschamp hire, now this. Seems like Sark and the team are serious about getting the program back on track. Staff, do yall have a ballpark estimate on how much that would be? It’s separate from his NIL earnings.

This is 100% correct. Georgia completely figured out Flood’s blocking schemes too, so I suspect it also is intended to revamp Texas’s o line philosophy (assuming Flood is retained). -
Agreed. Appreciate all that PK did for us on and off the field. The defense was solid the past handful of years and clearly carried us in several games. Can’t take that away from him, so thanks Coach PK and good luck back on the west coast where it sounds like he wants to be. All good for both sides and hope it turns out well for all families involved long term .

I believe Rutgers CB Bo Mascoe is someone to keep an eye on when the portal opens for Texas. -

Yep one of the best coordinators we have had here, though I understand why Sark might prefer Muschamp (who happens to be the #1 coordinator we have had here).

In all of coach Sarkisian’s time with the program i’ve never seen him be this “aggressive” you could say when it comes to making decisions in the offseason. If this is his new normal i’m excited to see what else he pulls off.

Yep. Jacoby Jones, decent player, got hurt after the OU Wr ran himself out of bounds. -
I can name another assistant were he to leave I would be overjoyed. Not PK. Best wishes Coach,

Good Heavens. How could he even walk after some of those games????

In fairness to PK we had zero able bodied pass rushers in 2021. I remember that in desperation they scoured major programs for highly ranked guys who hadn't lived up to expectations and got 3 - Ovie something from Notre Dame (who subsequently followed BK to LSU and didn't work out there either), the 5* linebacker from Bama (Ben Davis?) who didn't do much and a high ranked dude from LSU (Thornton?). None of those guys were much help. Without any pressure off the edges we were sitting ducks -

2021. The defense had some struggles, but that was a very stout conference schedule. Repeatedly ignored by message board posters. Every board I’ve been on. Rinse and repeat. I also repeatedly read discussions on officiating errors. Since 2021, the poor officiating pales in comparison to the examples set from the Big 12 that year. So, yes, the 2021 defense faded in 2nd halves, the offense struggled to make the plays too. Sark, while deserving considerable credit for many aspects as to where the program stands today, in terms of wins and losses in his 5 years has underachieved more than he’s overachieved. Now, this move. He wanted Muschamp from the get go so it’s understandable he’d bring him on board when ready. There are legitimate questions about what has Muschamp done lately. Per Georgia’s website, he was Co-DC in 2022-23. Also per their website, Schumann was co -Dc in 2019 and promoted to DC with play calling duties in 2022. Here’s a little reminder that Kyle Flood is listed as our OC. I doubt many here would be comfortable with him calling plays for Texas. The trajectory shows Schumann is their primary DC with Muschamp in potentially an advisory role. There is legitimacy to questions about what Muschamp has in the tank and how much he’s been engaged recently in spite of him being Co-Dc in 2022-23. I’ve yet to read any insight into what he did in this role but rather assumptions that it’s significant. And that those who question that are to take it as gospel. If Schumann was the defensive play caller, then that makes those questions legitimate. As to Muschamp, I like him. I also like Pk. That doesn’t mean that certain things didn’t frustrate me, but you’ll get that with every single coach. On its face, I don’t like this move. Not because of Muschamp so much but because of PK and all we’re left with is perception of how it went down. -
