The season is young, but is Carson putting together perhaps the best season ever in Longhorn Baseball?  Everything he has an opportunity to do, he is taking advantage of. Especially last several series.

He started off bad, then he’s picked it up. He’s doing well, but nowhere near the “best season” ever.

Ivan won the spike award. He hit for a lot of power. Don’t recall his defense as well as his bat.

He was first base and had one error all season. Stop the comparisons

Ivan also bat .387 with an OPS of 1.371 and 32 HRs. Tinney is great... but he is nowhere near that pace.

In my time following the program, it’s hard to beat Teagarden.

Silas Ardoin was a top-notch defensive catcher who gradually got better at the plate and continued to develop his power.

Tres Barrera also has a special place in my ranking of Longhorn catchers.

Ricky Bradley, you're going way back! Keith Moreland played then. Catcher for the 73 NC. From Lufkin, his brother , Randy, was pitcher as well.

Catchers, I'd go with Teagarden but, best season has to be Brooks Kieschnick. That's my 2 cents

My take after the first couple weeks with Tinney batting clean-up was that (at the time) Texas didn’t have anyone in the lineup batting behind him to force pitchers to challenge him. I think that was one of the main factors to batting him second. Ultimately everyone slumps in baseball. The regular season doesn’t really matter so much, what these guys do in the post season is what will ultimately be remembered or solidified one way or the other.

Im not saying hes having a bad season. I just thought he was going to be the masher. Hitting dingers every game. Hes been pretty legit behind the plate.

Rupp was good as well.  Look.Its a big statement, I realize that.  The season is nowhere near complete.  Like the comment regarding protection behind him.  On another note, Will Stein is preaching Texas High School football to BBN, Lake Travis specifically.  Makes sense.  

 

Texas has yet to put a catcher into MLB that made a meaningful mark.  Tinney may change that.  Rupp may be as good as its been.
