Texas women's basketball portal thread

It’d be helpful to hear something on this from any of the mods. We all love Vic and success brings interest. It’d be great to know what’s actually going on, or get some directional insight if folks are afraid of burning bridges.

95% of this is drama. Why would they weigh in? Gossip? Campfire story? Reassurance it’ll all be okay? lol 

It is what it is and Vic will either make it work or some of his luster will thin out.

Because it’s the same for every sport people follow. 95% of the off-season is made up “what-if” drama.

The Gaston interview released a few days ago doesn't help either. They didn't make it sound like it was very fun to play for Vic and staff.

Dumb. That has nothing to do with where they presently stand. Who turned on them? We haven’t mopped up the portal and others have gotten better? Agree or disagree?

“Yall” want tea and/or reasons to make sense of the mass exodus that occurred not x/o. Enough has been alluded to and it’s nothing more than human conflict for whatever reasons. Vic probably needs to adjust some of his approach to 2026 while commits need to have the EI to play for a non flexible coach.

Staff probably should have said something even if it’s to say we aren’t going to comment but it’s merica in 26. You’ll get what you get and you’ll like it.  Also, they may have replied but I’m not scrubbing 25 pages of screenshots and dear Abby. I got one that ignores anything I ask and one that can’t reply to email even with no comment but I’m just a subscriber. South has been great in replying and overall this staff is still better than most. Probably time to lock this one and move on to how they’ll gel under Vic vs sky is falling speculation.

Neither. It’s tbd. Addition by subtraction is a real thing. We don’t know if the ones that left are a value add to another team as much as we don’t if the incoming amazing class can gel from the beginning. Basketball might be the easiest sport for freshmen to have an immediate impact.

Texas didn’t bring in anyone that the interwebs wanted but I’m not sure whom Vic missed out on that is crushing. Maybe he believes the new class is better than those exiting? Maybe he is stubborn and losing his touch with the current generation?

Has not been a good off season. I try to stay out of these threads attacking our coaches and players. I like Vic, my niece played for him back in the day when he was really tough and she loves him. I think he is a great coach and bugs me when we attack our own when it gets a little tough. All fan bases the same I know. I think we will be better than you all think next year. We will see. Final Four 2 years in a row and No. 1 recruiting class does not suck in my opinion. Hook Em   And you may be accurate on the Dumb part, LOL

For Vic, who plays usually stems from how they are playing defensively versus offensively. He pulled Crump and Carlton early in games because of how poor they played defense at times. He did this with Lee as well against UCLA when she just didn't have the same intensity she normally has. Booker shooting 3-23 and Lee 2-17 are anomalies. Shooters will shoot and you have to run with who got you there. Nobody would ever predict Booker would shoot 13%. She wasn't tired, she was just missing easy shots. 

That being said, I would have liked Vic taking her out of the game for 1-2 minutes early just to talk to her and get her in a different mindset when she missed 7-8 shots in a row after the first bucket. 

But Vic gets us to the finals if Booker shoots 6-23 instead which is terrible for her as well. Just very unfortunate we low rolled in the final four and now in the off season.

I only used the dumb part because you can’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Of course he’s been great with two final fours. However, he’s sort of at a crossroads it seems. He’s gonna have to figure out why players won’t stay.  
 

The lack of portal movement seems like we can’t attract the ones we want.  It isn’t lack of wanting people or trying.  Credit the staff for keeping the class together. 
 

Hey I coach for living and get nuggets from time to time that I don’t always share. Look in our profession you either adapt or die. It’s just the way it is. If you think you have it down pat, you probably don’t. I hope Vic has wise council around him.

I do agree with the sentiment that Vic needs to figure something out with regards to the portal yearly.

The elite programs don’t lose key players, they lose the ones that don’t think can get playing time to get it elsewhere.  Last few years, this one especially, have seen departures from key role players and starters.
