Jc Dobbs Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago The Big XII, under the leadership of the great Yormark, should reply "Bring It." By so doing, they would force the Tech administration to even more prominently establish their position standing alone against the traditional ethics and practices of college sports. Disgraceful. 2 Quote

Bobbers Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I did not realize that Paxton is doing his job. The Attorney General is representing Texas Tech, which is a state university . Paxton would do the same thing for the University of Texas if the same thing were happening to the UT quarterback. 6 2 1 Quote

How exactly would a conference using its bylaws to sanction Tech run afoul of any state law? It's just a naked shakedown and another abuse of power - which our esteemed AG has a long and documented history. Edited 13 hours ago by horns96 3 Quote

I can tell a lot of you don't like Paxton, and none of you like Texas Tech, but the truth still matters. A judge made his ruling in favor of a state entity. The AG is protecting the interests of the state entity. I personally think the Judge's ruling is insane, but that is not the point here. The NCAA has appealed. I think they will win in court making Paxton's letter a moot point. No matter what happens, Texas Tech has turned this into a PR nigthmare and they have tarnished their reputation for a generation. 4 Quote

So Paxton is writing legal threats against something that the Big XII might do…. Meanwhile I haven’t heard a thing from the AG’s office about the documented violation of Texas state gambling laws that Sorsby has admitted to. His priorities are “interesting” at best. 2 1 1 Quote

University of Texas would have to willingly contradict a long standing NCAA standard of student athletes conduct. No other University has taken that stance other than TTU. Capiche??? 1 Quote

I agree this a nightmare, I agree with your thoughts on Protecting a state university. State of Texas cant donanything criminal, because Sorsby didn't make bets or was underage at the time in Texas. So, it would be a the request of the States and Federal because of cross state, I think, I am no lawyer. But, at the same time cant the Big 12 suspend him if he was under investigation by law enforcement, that would stop all this. End of the day, Campbell should have backed away and cut his losses. But, by doubling down is creating a lose lose for everybody. Whatever, dreams Tech had at being included in the Big boy world of college sports went out the door. How does one suspend a current athlete at Tech from betting on a sport the play. So, you are undercut the Athletic Director and Coach, so why should the players l8sten and how do you discipline. So messed up. Quote
Thorn007 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Texas energy executive Cody Campbell directly contributed $100,000 to Ken Paxton's legal defense fund following the 2023 House impeachment, later backing Paxton's U.S. Senate campaign with massive financial support given both directly and through associated PACs and dark money groups. BILLIONAIRES get their way YO Some would call this in cahoots Edited 4 hours ago by Thorn007 1 Quote
AusMOJO Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think politics aside, this type of behavior whether team red or blue is unacceptable. It shows a lack of character and that you can be easily bought and paid for. I remember seeing a joke or skit about how politicians should have to wear sponsors on their suits or whatever, so people can see who is paying them lol. Anyway, just pure stupidity. It really has exposed Texas Tech and thee terrible leadership there but also the donors (at least when it comes to Campbell). Not been a great time for them and I'm all for it lol. Quote
MarkInAustin Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago i have alluded to this before. TT had been in the process of gradually building its academic rep over the last decade. It had moved into the top fifth of engineering schools and was attracting National Merit Finalists with full rides. It had done this, quite surprisingly, in Lubbock, Texas. ---- Wealthy donors have done magic for UT and so they could have for TT. I fear Campbell's agenda may send the academic reputation of TT back into the darkness. The State and even the nation really need more first class research institutions that are attractive to top STEM students. Instead, the public and brutal embrace of dishonesty in TT athletics will tar the entire school. Sad. Quote
MarkInAustin Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago The Big 12 could couch its response as discipline of its other members. It could say that no conference team can take the field against TT if Sorsby has suited up. Give TT the "wins". Nobody will count those forfeitures against the conference foes, nor take TT's "undefeated" record seriously. Quote

Can not believe it But wait, where’s Campbell?! Shovanec can’t even get through this BS and remember what he’s supposed to say. He’s stumbling all over his words it’s a tragic comedy. I couldn’t watch more than 2 minutes of this trash. “We have a center for addiction and recovery that specializes in helping addicts hide from the consequences of their actions. We’ve found it’s been a shining example of what not to do. We call ourselves the ‘null hypothesis’ and we’re thrilled to see how we can continue to show the world what NOT to do. That’s why we sit here today in fact. Joey, please tell us how you as the football coach are feeling about having this responsibility of managing distraction and ruining the integrity of college sports for the sake of wins?!” 1 Quote

Roy Hinojosa Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Cody Campbell is the problem in the middle of all of this. Happy for him that he made life changing money, but he's using this gift to advance his interests if it means blowing up the whole system. He needs to take a huge step back and realize that whatever he thought was going to happen, it's not worth all this scrutiny. The fact that he was able to weasel his way into the highest positions of power all because of his money is the reason why so many young people think billionaires are a problem in our society. I also apologize because the last thing I want is to have a political discussion, and if this post violates that then I'm all for the mods taking this post down. The problem is that this has turned political by the actions of Cody Campbell and the Texas Tech contingency. There has been this rare unifying front against what Texas Tech is doing, yet no action can take place because of Cody Campbell. How do we move past this? The further this goes on, the murkier the waters get and that's what Cody Campbell wants. Edited 1 hour ago by Roy Hinojosa Quote
