@Bobby Burton how much future money did this show cost C Campbell? The only way to get a seat at the conference realignment table now is by money whipping everyone sitting at it. Gonna cost a lot more than they paid Sorsby.

I think they just made themselves so toxic that they won’t ever get a seat at the table of a Big Boy conference.  Had they not pulled this stunt I could have seen an opportunity in the future.  With Cody Campbell involved and Maguire at the helm I don’t ever see it happening.  I could see Maguire getting kicked out of the Texas HS Football Hall of Fame though.  Maybe he was just drunk for the past three weeks straight.

The judge granting the temporary injunction is what set the wheels in motion.  When he did, Tech was emboldened and didnt consider the consequences.  Truth be told as a competitive person it has happened to me many times where I thought the victory was worth the cost.  Frankly the Big 12s lawsuit was the ultimate reality check.
A number of people at tech (or Kessler) read the lawsuit and the tea leaves and made an adult decision.

Knowing kids of Sorsby's age, I do feel a little bit bad for him - someone in his orbit should have stopped this - his family and friends placing bets for him, the folks at Cincy that probably knew about it, Cody Campbell who apparently did no background check before tossing $5M to him, his agent, et al. et al.

So why would a NFL team mess with a player not two months removed from inpatient treatment for compulsive gambling?

Is there any NFL team that takes the risk to add a known gambling addict who bet on his own team? Not so shure.

So if Sorsby is technically eligible to play this year, how can he goto the supplemental draft?

He is withdrawing his lawsuit so that would make him ineligible again

I believe that with Kessler withdrawing the lawsuit that sought a temporary injunction on his eligibility, he reverts to being ineligible under the NCAA's original ruling.

So what happens if there is no supplemental draft or if he doesn’t get drafted? Does he try out as an UDFA or does he file another lawsuit to regain that last year of eligibility?

Very interesting ESPN article about this situation.  Many of the assumptions made in this thread are wrong if the article is right.

Key points:

Up to 8 teams might be interested in drafting him, he was seen as possibly QB2 ahead of Simpson in the 2026 draft, a possible first rounder.  Some of those teams could want him as a starter candidate, others with aging QBs might want to groom him as a future starter. I was surprised at how highly he was rated and how many teams might be interested.  I doubt he'd make it past the 2nd round in the supplemental draft.

How about the gambling?  Two examples were given of college guys dinged for gambling who got the opportunity to play in the NFL.  This included QB Hunter Dekkers, who lost all eligibility for one $15 bet on his Iowa State team in a game he did not play in. He played a year at a JUCO (not sure if his choice or NFL requirement) and signed "with the Saints as an undrafted free agent, and he spent last season on the practice squad."

The other player had around 8,900 bets in college, including 17 on college games, and was not disciplined by the NFL  So there apparently would be a path for Sorsby.

I know that's not what most want to hear on this thread ... read it for yourself at this link.

I was pretty surprised reading the article.

TT acts innocent, but wouldn’t they have done a background check on a player of that value?  And he was clean and pure?

How would a background check reveal gambling?

Haha! Cody Campbell bowed out

Yeah, that “Jed Clampett meets Don Corleone” schtick didn’t impress or intimidate anyone!

Yeah, I just read that, too. Was surprised by the Kayshon Boutte case, which is comparable to Sorsby.  As for Dekkers, he's playing in the UFL.  If I can find a Kalshi prop on his round in the supplemental, I'd put money on 4th round and beyond.🫠

He was never ruled eligible. He was ruled ineligible, but a retired Texas state judge granted a TI, his eligibility trial was set for February. He now has to drop his case, so that he can be eligible for the supplemental draft, where he will likely go undrafted.

He was eligible to play until the trial - meaning he was eligible to play this season - triggering any payment options.

I bet they paid him, there was some pundit from a major broadcast basically said " give him 2 million and go the the supplemental draft." At the end of the day if Tech was going full end with Sorsby, no matter what not even the Big 12 can trust them in thier conference much less the Big 10 or SEC

These has to be tied into the House Bill, seems like a political trick wag the dog. Maybe or purpose or just by accident.
