HonkEm Posted Saturday at 04:13 PM Posted Saturday at 04:13 PM PK’s defense was great until it mattered. That’s why he’s gone. End of story. Quote

That plus horrible angles created that score. Prevent actually SHOULD have been the call in that situation. I do think Guilbeau blitzed but the opposite side defender dropped so still only rushing 4. I could be wrong on that. Angles were a problem. You’re the first I recall mentioning this so kudos to you. Players need to make plays. I’d classify this play as one of those. Guilbeau should be aware that a screen is very possible on that play. On the back end, we had one guy let him get outside while at the same time taking out another one of ours. 1 Quote

Sark wants complementary football. I hope the offense does its part and he finally gets it. I think we’ll return to top 10. Muschamp can take some credit, but personnel on defense is much more prepared this year. Last year, DT was a question mark with limited big play ability. All the key parts are back. And hope is that Justus brings some plays. Simmons should be better. Zina, Jackson better. LBer similar but Biles adds a bit more versatility. Then the maturity of the DBs takes a pretty solid jump. And absolutely the improved offense makes life easier for the D. Taaffe, Hill, Manny all missed games last year. January too. McDonald missed the majority of Vandy. So whatever we started with took some hits. 10 hours ago, GQ03 said: The defens had much better personnel. Had pre-season All-American gamebreakers at every level of the defense while the offense had none of that. Sark made the DC change to add what the defense was missing but also brought in Coleman, Smothers, Raleek, Siani, Seymore & Masunas to add what Sark believes the offense Quote

Dread-headed Texan Posted Saturday at 05:55 PM Posted Saturday at 05:55 PM Go watch Indiana against Ohio State vs Texas against Ohio State and notice the difference between how the Buckeye quarterback played. At some point you have to stop waiting for the QB to make a mistake and force him to make it. PK didn't do that and that why in all but one year his pass defenses were below average. Not to mention he could never marry the front to the backend 2 2 1 Quote

Not to mention he could never marry the front to the backend Texas had more sacks per game and more interceptions per game than Indiana. His pass defenses were not below average. That is a complete and utter disregard for applying any context. Now to the specific example. Sayin threw a pick versus Indiana drive 1. Then proceeded to throw for 245 yards with no interceptions subsequent to that. J Smith did more in that game than two versus Texas combined. On a 4th and 1 from the IU 5. Play by play shows that was overturned on a Sayin run. Then OSU missed a game tying 27 yard FG. I guess that’s the defense taking it to him. Id say those two defensive performances were comparable given the contexts. 3 Quote
horns96 Posted yesterday at 02:29 AM Posted yesterday at 02:29 AM (edited) Like @Rod Babers says, "Sark's an entertainer". I wouldn't be surprised if Muschamp's defense has a worse year statistically, but it will certainly be more entertaining. Also, having a DC that doesn't go on the road to recruit is a liability. I’m one who’ll stick up for PK. I do think we’ll improve numbers-wise this year. Jackson and/or Zina stepping up their rush game will be the biggest factor as to how much. Then if one of the interior guys ups their pass rush game, we could have a devastating defense. Quote
Jerky Posted yesterday at 03:09 AM Posted yesterday at 03:09 AM Huge 2024 Texas defensive fan. Our secondary was not the same in 2025 after Gideon and TJ left. Our LB play suffered without Choate imo. PK and Nansen did not seem to mesh. PK has needed the right combo of coaches to succeed at the highest level imo. I am a PK fan but it had run its course due to fit, style and limitations. Sark is hungry and he believes a rejuvenated Will can work from the top down to control the defensive operations and improve the defense play. The style suits Sark more so than bend but don't break. Bobby would know, seems likely Vandy 4th Q disfunction was an issue that led to a more serious look at making a change. Will improved our D in 2008 and transformed us into an elite defensive unit in 2009. 2010 D was a dropoff due in part to the draft. We did not have the needed talent in 2010 on defense. Evals were off with a few 2010 defenders. There was no portal back then to fill in the defensive gaps like now. 1 Quote

The front and the secondary just wasn't playing together and there was some chaos on the sidelines. Agree. Muschamp's philosophy on defense is his D will play as one; what happens with the offense is not his concern, he wants his squad to play with aggressive emotion and give our offense the best chance to win the game. WG Carter Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Better recruiter, more aggressive defenses and trying to get some of that Georgia toughness were the reasons I believe. Sark being pro active on change. I have a lot of great memories of Coach K. era---short yardage stops, our play vs hated rivals and the players we had during his time. Still amazes me in game vs Aggies, A. Hill was out for entire game and Ty Smith was out first half for targeting. Quote
AusMOJO Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I've made my opinion on the whole PK thing clear, so I won't rehash it. But in saying that, I am excited for Muschamp and to see what he can do. From all the talk I've heard about him and vaguely remember his last time here, it is exciting to hear the positives. But my question is, if PK can have one bad year and be fired, why does Flood get so much of a pass? His unit severely underperformed in 2025 and even in other seasons. Yet his job is secure? On top of that, what if the O still sees a lot of struggles in 2026? Who's to blame then? Who gets fired if that happens again? Anyway, I'm kind of over the off-season talk like a lot of you and want the season to start so we can see our Longhorns play. The schedule is going to be grueling but enjoyable to watch this year and I'm super excited for it. Quote
JLN Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago I think part of the reason is because the offensive struggles. PK's defense didn't have a high percentage of blitz's or stunts, so the offense didn't see it live in practice enough. This should help the offense start quicker and be more prepared for a team like Georgia. Quote
watty7796 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago PK was a good coach, but he always played not to loose. Muschamp is a championship level DC. He plays to win. You have to be willing to take calculated risks and put your players in the position to win. Quote

Yes they should’ve been better in the 4th but they stupidly went into prevent, had some bad calls against them and injuries. If the offense scores one touchdown in the 4th we’re not talking about the defense. Sark goes halves all the time without scoring. That’s the bigger problem to me. Quote

The struggle of last year plus Muschamp being available is what led to the dismissal. 1 Quote

Surprise, the #1 scored points against a depleted defense. Disappointing, the offense could not finish 1 drive in the 4th against a middle of the road defense. Since Sarks arrival the offense has struggled to finish. Ohio State, Kentucky, Vandy last year. There have been FGs to tie or take the lead when first downs or TDs finish the game. The opportunity was there versus Vandy. It didn’t happen. 1 Quote

Choate and PK had a history and understanding which allowed them to work together better than PK and Nansen. Yes the offense was the main problem in 2010. Call the 2010 D what you will but.... Yes there was a defensive drop-off from 2009 to 2010 and it was not just the offense. 2.2 yds per rush allowed in 2009 vs 3.5 yds per rush allowed in 2010 3.8 yds per play allowed in 2009 vs 4.6 yds per play allowed in 2009 16.7 ppg allowed (12th in FBS) 2009 vs 23.7 ppg allowed (49th in FBS) 2010. Texas lost 4 2009 defensive starters (36% of starters lost to the NFL). 2010 NFL draft: IDL/Edge/LB Lamaar Houston, DE/Edge/LB Sergio Kindle, Safety Earl Thomas and MLB Rod Muckelroy Texas talent drop-off with 2010 starters and contributors- DT Tyrell Higgins, Edge/LB Dravanti Johnson, MLB Dustin Earnest, Safety Christian Scott. (19 starts and 47 games played). These 4 were not drafted or NFL players. We had better defensive talent in 2009 than 2010. Edited 1 hour ago by Jerky Quote

Don't get me wrong, I get where you're coming from with your opinion but it just seems like a weird situation. Definitely didn't feel like Sark and PK parted on good terms. But I don't think Flood deserves a pass because he's Sark's guy or whatever. If they underperform again, he's gotta go. Can't set a precedent with PK and keep Flood around (assuming his unit struggles again). You made some good points though - thank you. Quote
