Tre Wisner take

Tre Wisner was fine and is fine. 

I feel his demise at Texas was the lack of a 2nd RB that was also a threat.

He was not a "problem" when Blue was part of the duo.

All of Sark's RB's at Texas have had a duo system, and I feel Wisner was a victim of missing that last year...along with the OL trouble...along with some playcalling. 

I like the 2 RB's we got (esp Smothers imo) but feel like Wisner could have had a impact as well. 

Was the NIL asking price that far off?

Pretty sure he left cause the NiL package wasn’t what he wanted or we wouldn’t raise to what he was asking. 
 

I liked his production out of the backfield and thought he would have been good in rotation with whoever we brought in but I think he was asking for RB1 money that we didn’t want to commit to. 
 

there could be more but I didn’t listen to the noise or haters saying he could leave but I wish him well and hope he does well at FSU and makes it to the league to make himself some money.

He took bad advice from whoever his agent/ advising him. He really deserved to finish his career as a horn but i also understand he wasn't worth the asking price either if you believed we could upgrade

That's incorrect.

They never agreed to numbers.

His agency started well above where Texas was.

heck of a kid and always represented us well. Sad he didn’t end his career as a Longhorn but that’s the NIL driven game now a days for some.

Tre Wisner is a good player. Hard nosed, tough as nails, reliable and dependable.

Tre, however, is not a breakaway runner even though he's somewhat slight of build.

Initially, Texas wanted to keep Tre and only take one RB from the portal. But Tre's agency asked for significantly more than what Texas perceived as market value.

So the two did not agree to terms, he entered the portal, and then Texas started looking for two RBs in the portal. They identified Raleek Brown quickly and then circled back on Hollywood Smothers who had committed to Alabama from North Carolina State.

Long story short, there's no disparagement of Tre Wisner around here. Is he perfect? No. But he was a damn good Longhorn when Texas needed him the most. He will be missed, even if his replacements may actually be better.

Tre was an OU & Aggie killer. Always be reminded fondly.

 

He was not a game changer, big play guy. Example, 1st offensive play of 2nd half against Aggie.

That same play, Hollywood Smothers or Raleek Brown takes that ball to the house. Tre got caught on 15 yd line, we settled for a FG.

It was a business decision.

Yes. His agents asked for a number that no school ended up offering.

It may also be possible that Texas thought Baugh or Lacy would be in the portal at the time that they let Wisner walk. Either way I’m sure Texas thinks the 2 they got are an upgrade over Wisner, just maybe not the extreme level upgrade they thought that would be available to them.

Tre was great.  In the NIL era though he was replaceable.  He was tough and had the patience for wide zone, but I would say that Raleek Brown and Smothers are both significant improvements.   Tre would likely be the 4th best back after Derek Cooper on our team.  I hope he finds some success at FSU and gets drafted.  To me, this was a win win and both parties improved their positions.  All this talk about he asked for more money is silly.  Good for him for asking for more money.  Good luck to him and God Bless.  He will always be a Sooner slayer with Nick Brooks at LG.

I liked Wisner. But I trust Sark, and I'm more a longhorn fan than a Wisner fan. Wisner is no longer here.  Its spilt milk, why you trying to drink it off the floor?  Just wipe it up and throw it away.

Wisner was/is a good player. Solid #2 RB. But he's not really a lead back for a team in the hunt for a title. He has patience and pretty good vision, but he's not particularly strong and let's face it, he's very slow for a D1 RB. He just can't make the plays with his legs that he sees with his eyes. 

I hope he has a good year at FSU. I can see him as a good coach someday because he has the mental part of the game and the feel for it.

Wisner was tough, showed up against our biggest rivals, and had a versatile skillset. But in his best season he still only averaged 4.7 YPC—behind arguably the best Texas OL in a generation. That’s just not good enough. If you can’t average 5 YPC in college, you’re just pretty good. Texas needs better than pretty good.

I think he was a "cap" casualty of us refusing to just overpay because they were a starter at Texas last year. If you aren't much better than an average SEC back why would we pay you to be in the top tier of them? I'm a big Tre Wisener fan but I think they clearly made a shift last offseason to make sure they were getting market rate for their starters and not much more.

I hope Tre kills it in the ACC.  He was great for us when we needed him most and I wish we could have retained him.  He was the posterchild for feast or famine.  He was just as likely go to for 150 or 50.

His big performances were the result of the blocking scheme against A&M and OU. With a real RB1, both A&M games are 20-30 pt blowouts

Big wisner fan as a player and person. I wish him nothing but success and wish he finished his career at Texas.

I hope he runs for 200+ against A&M in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl.
