If I understand correctly, SEC is basically saying they can’t legally stop pro players from being rostered. BUT, Those teams will be subject to penalties discussed the other day during the meetings where they voted.

So if LSU brings any of those players onto their team they will face the penalties by the SEC? Like forfeit of games and fines?

That judgment seems to say that they can't punish anyone (schools, coaches, etc.) for bringing in those players.

People keep saying, “At least after this year, this won’t happen again.” And as far as NFL players coming back to college, I agree—that probably won’t happen again.

My question is: what happens when a player from the 2023, 2024 or 2025 recruiting class goes before a judge and says, “But Judge, I only played four games during my redshirt season. I didn’t actually get a full five years of playing eligibility.”

It seems to me like this issue may not be completely settled yet. The NFL-to-college situation may be over, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are still more eligibility challenges ahead.

Unfortunately, and I hate this, this is probably why we’re going to have to have federal intervention, because the judiciary is rewriting the rules on a weekly basis.  It’s complete chaos.

IIRC the athlete has to choose which model works best for them, they can choose to adopt the 5 for 5 model, or keep the previous model, whichever is more beneficial to the athlete. I think that argument in court won't be as easy.
