Texas is 2–0 and currently ranked the No. 1 team in the country by the AP Voters after a 24–23 comeback win over Ohio State.

Still, there is plenty that this team can improve upon. 

The most critical aspect of the game that needs immediate improvement in my eyes? Catching the football.

Texas is tied with South Carolina for the most drops in the conference through two weeks with 8, according to PFF.

That also does not include the pass to Cam Coleman that slipped through his hands and resulted into an interception following a crazy ricochet.

Don't get why drops have become such a big problem since last year. Is Chris Jackson not emphasizing it properly? Even the easiest catches are going through their hands.

Unfortunately Ryan Wingo is never going to be a reliable target as he's not a natural receiver so that is what it is. Id like to see Jermaine Bishop get more and more run with Wingos role reduced a bit. That kid needs game opportunity to prove himself.

Cam redeemed himself as the game wore on but you can't flub a beautiful deep ball in a big game like that again.

That Wingo non-catch was brutal. Arch could not have walked over and handed him that ball any better.

Manning plays with high downfield aggression. His situational baseline is 9.7 to 11+ yards aDOT (Average Depth of Target) depending on the defense.

Chambliss and Mateer often sport an aDOT between 5.5 and 7.5 yards.

They have addressed the other big albatrosses- penalties, goal line offense, left guard

Is Wingo likely to declare when the season is over and if he does, realistically, what is he a 3rd-4th rounder based off the speed?

Not as much as folks want to believe it does.

NFL QBs throw hard. Kamario Taylor throws harder than maybe anyone in the country. If you want to play at a high level, you need to catch the football at a high level.

Can we bring in a coach who only focuses on catching instead of the entire WR skillset?

Agree the drops are a big problem, but Arch needs to improve as well. From what I can see rewatching the first 2 games, it's all about decision making and competency of his plays and reads. He has a bad habit of staying on his first read too long because he's optimistic that the route can develop into something if given an extra 1-2 secs. The issue is that the play is not designed for QBs to wait like that. The coaches really need to instill in him an internal metronome. Each tick is a read and progression. If it's not there you MUST go to the next read no matter what.  For me it's disrespecting the play designer and callers when you don't execute them correctly assuming no protection breakdowns. 

By mid to late season, he'll have a lot of reps on most of the plays which should help but he needs to spend more time on the cerebral side of quarterbacking if he wants to be a viable NFL QB. Talk to Uncle Peyton more than Uncle Eli. 

That said, he can still get us a natty but his ceiling is much higher than that if he can develop the discipline and meticulous side of playing football.

Here’s the thing.  I’ve seen countless times in the past year plus criticism about missing wide open receivers.  So it can’t be both ways.  Nevermind all QBs miss some.

One of the Tengwall clips from this past Saturday had him questioning why he didn’t throw to Shannon.  Only Arch can answer that, but the throwing window at that moment was not clean.  In the arm chair QBing, that element is largely disregarded.  That matters and it happens in split second increments.

The Film Guy last year criticized when Downs gave him a coverage look, believe it was a cover 2 look then bailed to something else then a TE came open later. 

OSU throws a lot of bodies into coverage with high level skillls.  Maybe mix in some false reads.  Keep in mind, we’ve basically had no film on OSU either year.

So if you advocate for quick progressions, you have to understand that maybe false reads impact reads.  Maybe that didn’t happen this year, but I bet it did with Downs.  If you progress quickly, invariably guys will become open after the QB has progressed.

No clue what the scouts think of him but he's clearly not a natural receiver and it's not like he has Marquise Goodwin or Xavier Worthy speed.
