My Take On Arch

Arch is a Manning.  I get that.

He is not Peyton of Eli, who were pocket passers.  Arch's strength is his mobility.  His game is more like his grandfather, Archie Manning.

Mack Brown tried to make Vince Young a pocket passer, but eventually he had to let "Vince be Vince".

Several times this year, Arch has had to make yards using his feet.  His feet are a weapon we are not fully utilizing.  From my seats, I have seen times where Arch had open field (20+yards) and chose to throw it...painfully throw it when he tries to throw it near the LOS.  I know I am not the only one seeing this.

Hopefully Sark will "Let Arch be Arch" the rest of the season

Been wondering if we don't need to put in some zone read plays to improve running game. He has ability to run it.

I am not a huge fan of QB designed running plays as a whole, but to open up the game a bit we Sark should consider it.

I am certain that Sark was on the USC sideline during the 2006 Rose Bowl.  He should know.

Arch struggles with proper mechanics and accuracy at times.   Both will get better.  And yes, he could embrace the idea of getting down quicker instead of picking up the extra 3 yards. 

He’s a gamer.

He’s going to be more than ok when the pressure is on. 

And I wouldn’t take any other QB in the country over him. 

We have a hell of schedule remaining.  Is anyone seriously worried about the young man?  I’m not.

I tend to think UTSA is an anomoly. Arch was awesome down the stretch against tOSU, continuing on from what he was at the end of last year. The meep meep's caught Texas in one of the all-time sandwich spots (after tOSU, before @ Tennessee) and it's very clear that everyone came out a bit sleepy and just happy to move it on. I expect a big bounce back against the Vols, who have yet to see a test like the one they'll get on Saturday

QB development is not easy. However, when are we going to have the discussion of Sark as play caller and QB developer? 

Ewers improved from year 1 to year 2 but then hit a plateau. Arch is in his 4th year with Sark/Milwee...and yet Arch is still inconsistent with proper mechanics, accuracy and anticipating receivers getting open. 

If this offense doesn't start to click consistently, who will be to blame? Arch? Sark? I hope we don't have to discuss this question. Hook em'

I really think the return of Nick Townsend could help Arch's game out a lot when he's back.

We need to use Arch more like Colt than Vince. Vince was not only faster, he could be punishing. Arch runs more like Colt but doesn’t quite have his passing touch, yet.

I like the discussion here.

But on the big time throw rate, I think the QB gets credit even if they are dropped.

Now, yards per attempt?  The Wingo and Coleman misses alone drop that yards per attempt almost a yard alone.  Arch’s drop percentage is 12th in the country at 12.2%. Five guys higher rates have 50 or fewer throws.

Of the numbers quoted, it impacts yards per attempt, completion percentage and also impacts perspective on the average time to throw.
