TexTheHorn24 Posted Monday at 02:03 PM Posted Monday at 02:03 PM Steve Sarkisian can become the first Texas head coach to beat Oklahoma three consecutive times since David McWilliams from 1989-91. 15 Quote

'94 grad. 1990-94. Peter "The Great" Gardere, ou slayer. He never lost to blowU. The Cash twins and Johnny Walker made a lot of those wins happen. We were the dog every year I was there. Great f'n games! 14 Quote
TexasMDcoach Posted Monday at 02:42 PM Posted Monday at 02:42 PM WOW, just shows that they have had the edge of late during the Stoops years and our years wandering through the wilderness after Mack's delayed exit and the years following that. Quote

Stoops owned Texas for the most part. Very frustrating, hopefully Sark will have a long tenure of returning the favor. 4 Quote

They were just that good. Quote
watty7796 Posted Monday at 03:09 PM Posted Monday at 03:09 PM 65–51–5-1 Texas has the edge all time and now Sarks tenure is going quite well for the Horns. One of the things that happened in the past couple of years is Texas ability to revive all the Rivalry games. Great for recruiting...great for the state...and more than anything else great for college football. 1 Quote

Interesting. We also have a three game winning streak against aggie. When’s the last time we’ve had three game streaks against both at the same time? Quote
WRNC Posted Monday at 03:25 PM Posted Monday at 03:25 PM Between Texas and OU, the programs claim 11 national titles, and in every single instance, the team that hoisted the national championship trophy won the Red River Rivalry game earlier that season. 2 Quote

I think Rod said that in Texas' history, there's never been a period where a coach won three in a row against all three primary rivals (OU, Arkansas, Aggie). I know you didn't include Arkansas, but Rod did since they are the three permanent rivals moving forward and historically were a rival. 2 Quote

Mack Brown’s biggest downfall in college football (not only) was that he was too honest of a guy. I’ll take it. He could have lied to guys during recruiting and stacked talent that way in an era before commonplace transfers and player autonomy. Many in our fanbase would have preferred that over honesty. Guy is a legend in my book and receives way too much slander from the Texas fanbase. 3 Quote

Others may have a better analysis of his downfall but IMHO 09 broke him and put him in a funk. A sabbatical might have worked wonders. The OL was maybe the biggest negative indicator of losing the edge, and Saban being willing to flirt with us broke the camels back. 4 Quote

Gardere was the first QB I saw of my first ever Texas game when I was 7, and it was the Texas OU game. That was a great day 🤘 1 Quote

I think the downfall was when Mack very publicly said he was going to replicate Alabama and Nick Saban’s approach. He should have just stayed Mack. Saban was a unique situation/person. Quote

That and he completely changed course on his offense because instead of accepting that he counted on an offense led by Colt McCoy and never bothered to get Garret Gilbert any worthwhile in game experience so when Colt got hurt in the championship game he had nobody ready to take the reins. Then instead of prepping Gilbert to take over the next year, he decided to change the offense completely away from what made Gilbert good (and what he was recruited for) to try to copy Saban's offensive approach (which made no sense because they had recruited different personnel). It was the complete opposite of build the scheme to fit your players, it was literally force these players into this scheme (square peg meet round hole). Additionally, it seemed like Mack's recruits evaluations started to really slip. He signed players way early in the cycle and considered it done and missed out on a bunch of good players later in the cycle while a bunch of his early high rated recruits tailed off and didn't really pan out in college.
