Go Horns JC Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Per Chris Carter sportscast: Arch chose UT Sark because Sark committed to convert Arch to a pocket passer. Arch's natural system is RPO / Running Qb. Papa Archie is focused in protecting Arch from injuries. Sark and UT are in a pickle. Per Chris Carter, Arch's is underdeveloped as a pure pocket passer. It could be due to the OL or RB. What do you think? 1 Quote
4thandFive Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Arch doesn’t seem to have the, as @Gerry Hamilton calls it, “innate” football prowess to be that sort of a QB. Edited 2 hours ago by 4thandFive 3 Quote
Alex Butler Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago No wonder he’s struggling Hard to be a pocket passer when you don’t have protection and are seeing ghosts AND you don’t have a background in that system. Once again Garrett Gilbert 2.0 2 Quote
DanielOnorato Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Same stuff every year. If Texas loses a game or two it's the QBs fault. Y'all did same thing to Quinn. 2 1 Quote

The fan base is doing some revisionist history with Quinn this year. He was NOT good his last year at Texas. There's a reason he was drafted where he was. 2023 was Quinn's best year, he never touched that in 2024. 2 Quote

True, and the same development issues came up with Quinn unfortunately. I’m not all on Arch. My biggest gripe with him is the turnovers in the 4th quarter. That’s just inexcusable. Not ready to bench him just yet, especially because OU should’ve been a win if our special teams could block in punt pro and we don’t have two penalties that created chances for OU to score. Last week was on Arch some and in Sark for not just keeping the shirt game going and not punting at midfield going into halftime. Quote

I would argue he was killing it against Michigan and was rolling at UTSA then never got it back after his injuries. Too many turnovers that year for him too and we would do the same disappearing act for 2 quarter that we are doing now. 2 Quote
HalfmileHorn Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Arch plays like Grandpa, not a pocket passer. Needs to be on the move. Edited 2 hours ago by HalfmileHorn 3 Quote

These guys are capable, especially at the college level. Coaching has been elementary at best. Quote
jcash02 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago It's very obvious we're seeing a Garrett Gilbert 2.0 situation. Gilbert was suited for a wide open spread system and Mack tried to box him up and fit him into an under center drop back system. Arch is clearly a dual threat running QB who needs his legs to get him going and even taking a few hits to get his competitive fire activated. (Josh Allen style) Instead Sark has him stationary in the pocket like he's Peyton. No bootleg roll outs, no zone read RPO's, no direct QB draws etc. Sark's mismanagement of Arch will be a legendary blunder remembered for decades. 3 1 Quote

I think it's debatable (at best) if GG was ever a good QB in any system. I know he had a stint in the NFL and one decent year at SMU, but on the whole he was never a consistently good QB. Arch has looked like a great QB at time, including the second half of last season. I think he still has first round potential wheres GG never did once we saw his results at the colleagiate level. zmo1017 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I find it very hard to believe that his "natural system" includes RPO when RPO's require quick processing that Arch clearly doesn't possess. Second drive of the game ended when he misdiagnosed a would be TD on a 3rd down RPO and had to settle for a field goal. I guess it's possible the TE didn't know what he was doing and miraculously ran himself wide open? Quote

Would like to see him roll out more with run or pass option. Pocket passer with free blitzers and collapsing pockets not easy even for elite NFL QB. Hope coach changes to dink and dunk and more run or pass options. Got to do something. Teams have figured out to blitz and make they prove you can make them pay. Tenn did it to Bama and Russell looked Arch. Quote
Longhornlove Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Going back to the message @Bobby Burton relayed yesterday about being flat footed or not on his toes, try playing shortstop on your heels. No one will be successful in that situation. Quote

ZmoneyJD14 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) I think people need to get past the premise that arch was an amazing QB who is failing because of the lack of development and or poor offensive scheme/ play around him if you accept the premise that he was never that good to begin with, I think that will bring clarity to you. I think the data now points to him not being good rather than being impacted by outside external factors Edited 1 hour ago by ZmoneyJD14 2 Quote

TexShoe Posted 57 minutes ago Posted 57 minutes ago I believe this narrative. Manning camp's main objective is to develop Arch as an NFL QB, and not to win at Texas. This was their position all along and was their stated reason for committing to Texas, because of Sark's history of QB development. Arch's reluctance to run also supports this position, because that's not standard NFL QB play. Quote
