This will be great for the lockerroom.

Glad to know that his family is comprised of medical experts that can determine when he can play.  All players should be so lucky.

Sydir visiting LSU...

Interesting

Well, Davis did recruit him. He'll need to improve quite a bit to get playing time. Actually put work in, something he's seemed to not do much of under Davis and now Baker. Someone said for his size, he gets washed out too easily and he still plays too high. Was hoping Coach Baker might've been able to help him out, but apparently not.

Shame too, because I think if put the focus in and really got after it, he has a ton of upside.

IF Hunter doesn't work, Payne at 6'4 315 had a decent year for Bama. Also, Texas can't let all of the other SEC schools poach all of the players from each other.

5 tackles this year with a fumble recovery against Mercer.

I have no interest in taking players who haven’t done anything. I don’t care if other SEC teams are taking our scraps. If Payne was worth pursuing he wouldn’t be leaving a school like Alabama.

I don't think it's a horrible idea. There's not a lot of 300+ pound guys in the portal with proven production. In saying that, I'm not sure this guy production wise fits the bill. He also looked like he got pushed around quite a bit considering his size.

We also did lose out on Hunter, for what it's worth. Some places seem to confirm that he's officially committed to Texas Tech. Now, whether he signs with them is a whole other thing.

14 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 FR.. older rotational players are still a need. Bill Norton had 11, but still added value to the rotation

I'm talking about Texas taking other schools' good players, not what we lose. Bama lost a couple on the D-line like Jehiem Oatis but gained Kelby Collins from Florida.

Kelby Collins is an edge rusher.

My overall point stands. Schools like Georgia and Bama aren’t letting serviceable defensive lineman with no baggage walk away. If Payne had any hope of being a productive player moving forward for Bama he would still be there. He has made very little impact in 3 years. We are in day 8 of the portal. Throwing Hail Mary’s isn’t necessary yet.

I suspect that Hunter was a big piece of the puzzle for this staff, but he was clearly not the only piece. They have a need for 4-5 DTs and have thus far only signed one. I think there must be at least 1-2 that are currently on playoff teams that the staff expects to enter the portal. They appear to be taking their time, and this staff never panics in recruiting. They will figure out a solution, even if that doesn’t involve Lee Hunter (unfortunately).

I think if the kid from Clemson jumped in, Texas would be all over him. Woods I think his name is? There are guys in the portal that fit the bill for Texas, but they aren't going to rush their decisions on guys. Not how this staff rolls. The portal may close on the 28th but that only means guys can't jump in, I believe. Not that you still can't sign them.

To your point about Lee Hunter, I've seen some places say he has committed officially to Texas Tech but I don't know if he's signed? Wonder if he would still take the visit to Austin or not.

This is frustrating. I've no idea how we keep losing these types of guys, lol. Anyway, enough of the pity party. Best of luck to him chasing DB's after Arnold throws 5 interceptions a game, lol.

Shame we missed on the kid who went to A&M, that guy has ridiculous speed, too.

I seem to remember him being pretty exciting. Wonder if we will be interested. Could be that big back that we’re currently missing on campus.

Agree and would allow us to ease Baxter back into it.
