Realist Horn Posted February 7 Posted February 7 With Fenves going there as president, will he make a move for Del Conte? Quote

chennups Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Wouldn't that be a step down? I understand that Hartzell went due to the overly political nature of the UT-president position and having to kowtow to so many people. SMU is private, so it's just his Board (no legislature, etc). Quote
CHorn427 Posted February 7 Posted February 7 As much as we love The University of Texas as a school, it does not have objective claim as the best college in America. So as the president of UT, you can’t say you’re leading the best college in America. In contrast, as frequent winner/contender for the Director’s Cup, UT Athletics does have objective claim as the best college athletic department in the country. So if CDC leaves Texas for SMU, it would be leaving arguably the best athletics department in the country for a department at SMU that doesn’t frequently compete for titles in major sports (if any). That would be a perplexing move 3 Quote
qaertyisthatdude Posted February 7 Posted February 7 Would be a big loss if CDC takes that job. This is why title windows are not as long as you think, but the best programs in the country can win in spite of AD changes. Saban won titles at Alabama under three ADs. Bill Battle, then Mal Moore, and Greg Byrne, who is still Bama's AD under Kalen DeBoer. Ohio State football continues to prosper under multiple ADs. Would be worried, but I think Texas will be fine if CDC leaves as long as Sark is there. Quote
Bobby Burton Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I’m sure they would have interest. They should. But I also think another person in the department might be a possibility. 10 1 Quote

Nuufaola Posted February 7 Posted February 7 I would be surprised if he made that move. It’s basically going back to TCU 1 Quote

Oldest Horn Posted February 7 Posted February 7 CDC has already done the private school thing. Our budget is more than Rice, TCU and SMU combined. You could probably throw Baylor in that pool too. Quote
Helotes Longhorn Posted February 7 Posted February 7 SMU has our permission to hire Mack Brown instead. 1 Quote

Hartzell, would be smart to try but I don’t think they have a big enough dept for CDC to really want that job. Quote

Your assumption is not true. Hartzell left because he got paid tons more to be at SMU. 1 Quote

Also, have you been to SMU’s stadium? Holds 32000. Quote

MarkInAustin Posted February 8 Posted February 8 The typical run of a college president, especially at a public U. is 5 years. This regardless of how well loved one might be. There are relatively benign institutional factors that underlay this timetable. You could research this yourself, I am merely reporting the standard result. 1 Quote
