It's tough watching the men's basketball team struggle to come together, but what's even worse os to hear the trashing of RT and his staff by this fan base. RT never had the support of CDC or the Board of Regents. Remember the Elite 8 squad at multiple press conferences throughout that season after Beard got in trouble advocating for RT heavily. The players loved him, but the guys that make things go never did, and only offered him the job as a band-aid for Beard and not to lose the team, plus it was mid-season, and they couldn't ignore the success of that squad, even though Beard still got all the credit after his dismissal. Ron Holland going to the draft was the death nail for RT... but ask yourself, why did he? Was there a large enough commitment from the university? Seems like BYU figured it out for Dybasanta. We figured it out for Justus Terry. You mean to tell me that we were the first ones to notice Kaluma and Sheddrick just weren't going to be enough for this SEC season? So yeah, fire RT.... blah blah blah. Hurry up and get this season done and prostitute the university and it's cache for a known name this this arrogant and pompous fan base will believe in with no restraint, and that the Borad of Regents and CDC feel like is worthy of ponying up and joining the big boys when it comes to NIL/recruiting in this era. RT.... you were fired the day you started. When they come knocking, be ready to walk past them and hop on that plane to somewhere tropical. You're a Longhorn lifer and a man of service, even in the face of certain failure. You deserved more. 🤘🏿🫡

How do you really feel ?

I understand how you feel about it, but they were behind him, otherwise they wouldn't have hired him. He's had the support and NIL to do what he needs. His results have not been great. I'm not a fan of calling for people to be fired, that's not my or anyone else's decision (though they are entitled to discuss it). I want him to succeed and other coaches at Texas to also succeed.

Imo, he has done a pretty decent job but he's really struggled this year. Now, do you give him time and let him finish out his contract? Because it appears that those with the money are not interested on ponying up for Coach Terry, similar to how they had stopped doing so for Coach Pierce.

Hope he proves everyone wrong and goes on a big tear to finish the year, but I just don't see it happening.

How many years did RT get son his deal? Tell me... quick. Then ask yourself... if he's recruiting your kid, do you wanna send him to that coach, knowing he got hired on an interim basis with a 2 or 3 year deal? How long does it take for guys to finish their eligibility and how does that affect any one and done guy? Does it affect the NIL commitment from that university and Board of Regents....? Of course you wanna make money, but if he's successful and you arm him with the proper tools, then you're in a rock and a hard place tryna fire him and get the guy you REALLY want because of the results he's attained. Just food for thought...🤷🏿‍♂️🫡🤘🏿

Band aid... and the players that played under him damn near threatened a mutiny if he didn't get the job. Go back and watch those Big 12 champ week pressers and the tournament pressers on that run. It was RT this and that and he's the catch for this team.

If my googling skills are any good, it says he got a 5 year, 15 million dollar contract. Which if my math is correct, that's about 3 million a year. So I guess I can see the point you and Jordan are coming from with the commitment. Just seems like a place holder type of deal.

Ah, you make a good point. Sounds like CDC, Eltife and the lot, didn't really have much of a choice in the issue. Plus with his run to the elite 8, that helped his case a lot.

Can't say any of this is a lie! Definitely understand this sentiment. RT is a good man, but was doomed from the start.

3 million to coach Texas... top guys are making around 10 and up. Let's you know what they thought of him and those last 2 years were for show. Year 3 right now.. and it's curtains.

Gave him a shot based off a tournament run. No one forced him to take it. He could have called it insulting and went on his way.

126-108 Overall

62-58 Mountain West conference, 1 season out of 7 finished better than 4th place

Rodney Terry @ UTEP,    2018-2021

37-48 overall

19-33 CUSA, finished 14th, 11th and 5th in his three seasons.

Cmon UTEP and Fresno State, your coach needed more support.

As much as many of us think of RT , he hasn’t improved the program. I don’t feel sorry for RT because he got his shot & to this point hasn’t come through. If he’s let go which he probably should be if MBB wants to progress in SEC he will be leaving with a fat wallet . He will get no tears from me . I wish RT all the best

That run to the elite 8 was probably not really his own making.  He inherited that.  Maybe being fresh helped the team rally a bit, but he has had time since then to show something, whether or not he got as much as other coaches around the country.  I think UT wanted him to prove something he had not done before as a head coach (his prior records as a head coach are provided above) and he has not done that.  We will see how UT thinks about him when the season ends.

The NIL is seventh. RT definitely has his short comings, but he needs talent. Take a look a Toppin at Tech, then look at Texas with Shedrick and Onyema.

My guy, you have to quit harping on this NIL stuff. NIL isn't the reason this team looks as bad as they do it is piss poor coaching. In the current NIL format you cannot expect big money donors to blindly throw their own personal money at a lost cause in Rodney Terry. I guarantee you all this NIL talk goes away when we hire an actual coach that knows how to motivate donors in addition to revenue sharing.

No guarantee RT would've maximized Toppin's talents the way McCasland has at Tech.

Has RT "maximized" Tre? Pretty much.

Toppin is roughly the same player he was at UNM, but with a lot more shots. If Texas had gotten him, the offense would have been much more effective.

Idk about that.  The Texas offense I've watched this season is Tre and pray.  No creativity, no screens, no cutting.  Just stagnant all the way around.
