Mine is that the whole country has overcorrected on this Texas team from a year ago. Every criticism of the team feels like nitpicking—every team has weaknesses and gaps, but UT’s feel comparatively small. This feels like a deep, experienced, and Uber-talented group that can match up against literally anyone in the country. I think we are going to surprise people with how explosive we are on both sides of the ball.

I know some have called him a poor man’s Colin Simmons, but I’m not sure you can call him a poor man’s anything with that kind of production.

I’m a T Smith fan—I think he’s a dynamic playmaker who always seems to be around the ball—but championship teams have squeezed out all the entitlement to be a cohesive unit focused on the bigger goals. If he thought he was entitled to a starting role and wasn’t willing to fight for it (and play whatever role the team asked of him even if he failed), then he is not a championship player.

It’s fascinating—just as the whole country vastly overrated Texas to start last year given the youth and relative lack of talented depth, I think a LOT of national pundits are underrating us this year. Maybe people feel kinda snakebit after last year. But you cannot look at this roster and actually believe there are six better teams in the country. That’s just foolishness.
