    This game reminds me a bit of the first Georgia game. PSU hasn’t been particularly impressive offensively, but SMU has turned it over and given them consistently strong field position.

    James Franklin makes his expected boneheaded playcall. Lucky for him, SMU looks almost as lost as IU did on offense.

    What’s very obvious thus far is that these lower-tier playoff teams (IU, SMU) clearly are not physically ready to go up against elite defenses. I don’t even think ND and PSU are “elite” teams, but there are levels to this. I don’t think Bama and Ole Miss deserved to get in the playoff, but there’s no doubt they would not have gotten whipped like this.

    Okay, but you’re gonna tell me that any of these guys in the portal are better than Golden or that the coaches wouldn’t want him back for another year? And Bond IS a speed WR, hence my question.

    @Gerry Hamilton do you think the Texas coaches are being cautious with WRs in the portal because they think there’s a chance they could get Bond and/or Golden for another year? I know Bond wanted to be one and done, but he’s not getting any 1st round draft grades anymore since that injury. Feels like he could benefit from another healthy season.

    PFF has him rated as a top-10 DT in the country this year, so definitely a take.

    I’m very curious why we are not on this list. The coaches know better than anyone what their needs and preferences are at DT, but this guy feels like a definite take and exactly what they’re looking for.

    I seem to remember him being pretty exciting. Wonder if we will be interested. Could be that big back that we’re currently missing on campus.

    I suspect that Hunter was a big piece of the puzzle for this staff, but he was clearly not the only piece. They have a need for 4-5 DTs and have thus far only signed one. I think there must be at least 1-2 that are currently on playoff teams that the staff expects to enter the portal. They appear to be taking their time, and this staff never panics in recruiting. They will figure out a solution, even if that doesn’t involve Lee Hunter (unfortunately).

    I agree, but that’s the key: he has to leave Lubbock uncommitted. It’s sounding like they made him a massive NIL that was take-it-or-leave-it. They clearly don’t want him to make the trip to Austin.

    You’re probably right. But it also seems like Hunter never even gave us a chance to counter. @Bobby Burton any mutual interest between Texas and David Blay from La Tech? He seems like a solid replacement for the interior pass rush UT is losing in Collins/Broughton…

    I guess there’s not much Texas can do when other schools want to dramatically overpay for players we want. Reminds me of Damonic Williams a year ago—there was simply no way we were gonna pay that guy $1M+. It’s a bummer, though—Hunter would have filled a huge hole on this roster. Not sure where we go from here.

    Branch and Singleton are both dynamic, so I wouldn’t mind having them both. But that’s gonna be a hefty price tag. And I’m not sure how our stud incoming freshman WR would feel about us bringing in two portal WRs.

    Bobby and Gerry said on one of the shows today that they expected Singleton and Hunter in tonight or tomorrow.
