No13Seed Jim Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago On C&F this morning @Gerry Hamilton said at SEC Media Days he'd ask Arch (something like) to compare this year's team by position group to last year's. Bobby was solidly against asking the question. I agree with Gerry bc 1. Someone will ask. Might as well be "friendly" media. A fully legit question. 2. If Arch handles it right, IMO, he'll go this route: "I can only compare this team, right now, to last year's team at the same time." Then compare by referring to wide receiver heslth last year; OL limited in experience; Simmons & Jackson more ecperienced; RBs LY had more UT exp than this year's group; however, this year's RB with better overall exp; a one year experienced QB1; etc. Quote

hookem1014 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I don’t think there’s much of a point in asking that because 1. It’s a loaded question to go through each group 2. You’ll get a PR trained answer that doesn’t tell anyone anything new. 4 Quote
Moderators Hank South Posted 18 hours ago Moderators Posted 18 hours ago I'm curious to hear from Arch in general after his last spring availability where he was the most talkative we had seen him so far in his career. Definitely carrying a more relaxed vibe. 2 Quote
Austalgia Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago And why ask that question? I don’t think it’s even subjective. This years team far more talented with less holes. You’re just baiting him to say that. Why would friendly media engage in that? 4 Quote
Califashorn75 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Arch won't answer that directly. He will say something like, "Each year is different. I loved my guys last year. But we have high aspirations to win a Natty this year. Actually, at Texas, each year that's our goal!" Bobby was 100% right. Jerry had a Texas Tech moment. 2 Quote

I have no problem with the question, and some players probably would try to answer it. But I’ve seen Arch in enough media sessions to know that he’s too savvy for that. He’d probably say something like “I’m just focused on making this team the best it possibly can be.” Quote

Bobby Burton Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago One of the things I love and appreciate about Gerry is that he and I can disagree and then go have a beer (or talk more football) with absolutely zero feelings hurt. I may disagree with him at times, but I sure as hell respect him and what he has to say. 12 2 Quote

Thanos72 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Zero value in comparing. I think what is fair is to ask something like what is the floor and ceiling of this year’s team. It’s reasonable, relevant, and instructive. It could give us insight into the team. The other question gives us insight into his effectiveness answering loaded questions. Quote

I find it legitimate to ask and susceptible to a dodge, but a slightly different one. Arch could simply talk about how he has improved. 1 Quote

And take the time to entertain a new opinion now and then without thinking you have it all figured out . It makes an individual a much more well rounded person. 1 Quote
