No. 24 has been worn by some outstanding Longhorns over the years.

Tommy Ford was an All-American and co-captain of Texas’ 1963 national championship team.

Raymond Clayborn earned All-America honors, was a two-time All-SWC selection and Texas’ team MVP in 1976.

A.J. “Jam” Jones piled up 2,874 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns while leading Texas in rushing four straight seasons.

And more recently, Jonathon Brooks rushed for 1,139 yards and 10 touchdowns in his breakout 2023 season.

Also worth mentioning: 1969 national champion and co-captain Ted Koy, along with Joe Bergeron, who scored 25 career rushing touchdowns.

And the current No. 24 for Texas: defensive back Warren Roberson.

I’m partial to the players from my first impressionable years as a kid when it comes to this number: Clayborn, Koy, and Jam! But, this number is well represented by some good players!

This guy was a baller honestly if he was out there in his late 20s keeping up with those young bucks. I remember when this all went down thinking as a 13 year old that this dude had to be a badass to play at Texas being that “old” haha

Tommy Ford…..1963 National Champion and one of the best I ever saw.

Billy Schott and I met back in 1963 at the Austin airport where we were both wearing Tommy Ford jerseys with full pads and helmets to greet the team from a road game win that season

We ended up on the front page of the American Statesman the next day.

He went to Reagan and I went to Lanier but we reconnected as Wild Bunch members at the Disch.

Great guy.

Saw Raymond Clayborn play probably as much as the newer guys, I watched Koy on tv once (but it sure was a big one). 

 

Clayborn gets my vote, but it's very close with those names.

Also just a good dude. First met him at the Texas Relays while at Texas. Saw him a few times in Houston in the early 2000s

@Gerry Hamilton could probably find some good info on this, but Jam Jones was from Youngstown Ohio. I remember thinking it was remarkable signing him in that time.
