We might have a player leave because they’re unhappy? Awesome, let’s dog him cause, money… The mods haven’t specialized anything that I’ve seen, and let’s not play dumb here we know sources are vary from parents, staff members, former staff members, former players hell maybe even ball boys. And your right about money, members pay for this sight and you will never make everyone happy and once again I don’t agree with the ones dogging the young man but to each is their own. Quote

selfdm Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I'd love to be positive, but these things generally and the way you think they will. It's a bummer he had such a great ball game and seemed like such a well-liked player from afar. That being said something like this happened once a quarter with J'covan Brown and we never kicked him off the basketball team so maybe there's hope 😂 Quote

Sports can be very personal. I suspect they are for Smith. I have no idea what triggered his actions and will never know all the details. For now I won’t have an opinion given that limited information. As a younger dude, I’m not sure that I would have been so reserved. 1 Quote

Let's see what he does with it since it's a 6 fig decision. “Would be” suggests he got permission to miss or at least gave advance notice. That isn’t skipping. Quote

I have my opinion, which is that someone who signed a contract and was paid shouldn’t back out of said contract. Doing so shows a lack of character. I only said he’s not quite a good kid, because I was replying to that comment. You can exaggerate what I said all you want and call me a fool trying to confirm my status, whatever that means, but facts are facts. I didn’t know telling your coach you were going to miss a practice was a contract violation. Quote

tommym Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Sometimes we, as he older generation deem these generation weak. So, we all jump to conclusions, if he finds it hard here at Texas at the next level or at a private job, he will find difficult. I think a lot of people jump to conclusions, especially now with money. Things happen we move on, i dont these kids so I will not judge. Allow this to play out, he doesnt want to be here that's his decision. At the same time you have to cut away bad things to prosper. 1 Quote

On another thread it says Smith missed the scrimmage due to the flu. So maybe he isn’t so weak after all. Quote

A lot more to the narrative than that. I wouldn’t dig any further unless you want to read through arguments but it’s been ruled out that that was the cause of absence. Quote

My biggest thing is it’s so different now with these “kids” getting paid 500k+. You’re getting paid an insane amount of money to play football. Get over your feels and show up whether you lost a starting job or not. All it takes is one injury and your back in, instead of looking like a quitter and putting yourself over the team. HDub1995 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Let’s all take a step back. We don’t know what happened, and speculating doesn’t really help anything. Some of you are gonna handle the season real well! lol. 2 1 Quote

Austalgia Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Other side of it: you’ve bled burntorange for years, since you were in high school, and all of a sudden 2 guys that chose to start out elsewhere take your job because there is a coaching change. The new coach you feel doesn’t know what you can do, and didn’t recruit you. He also wasn’t around when promises were made in recruiting and last year. Ty Anthony ended the season with 9 tackles (8 solo), 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions, and 1 quarterback hit in the Michigan game (college football experience). Behind him we have unproven freshman . He might deserve to be lifted up like Jelani McDonald and Kade Philips. He sure as hell can help this team. And maybe just treating him delicately while still coaching him up could help. Coaches have egos too. And while players are getting paid and need to adjust, so does the coaching . It has to be smarter, these kids can go where they want and make more . All of this might be just speculation, just going by the thread here. We have few holes on this team, without his experience we get a big one in my opinion . Edited 1 hour ago by Austalgia 4 Quote

I do have trouble with the treating delicately part, because that just rubs me the wrong way. If you need to be treated delicately, linebacker isn’t a great spot for you. But yea ok I’m done until more information comes out lol. 1 Quote
