Briles at Texas in alternative universe

Curious what the mods have to say about this. Heard the rumors but never straight from Briles

As i recall there was a rumor he was asked to interview but declined to without the job offer?

The “coach” was doing his thing up in Waco…. impressive run and his offense was putting up points all the time like Leach up in Lubbock.
 

But the “guy” running the program the wrong way showed all we needed to know to be glad he didn’t end up here.  Can’t forget how much chaos ensued up there under his watch.

Patterson was a stickler for the rules, and his rule was everyone interviewed. Briles thought it was beneath him to do that, and Patterson told him thanks for taking my call. We got punished with Charlie, but after the Briles behind-the-scenes stuff broke wide open, we all realized we were blessed that his circus didn't end up in Austin. That is one thing we can thank Patterson for.

RG3 also said Mack told him at the end of a game to transfer to Texas. Imagine what could’ve been.

Obviously in retrospect we are glad this didn’t happen. In an alternative world how different would the last 13 years have been with Saban or Briles taking over for Mack?
