SB21 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago The “coach” was doing his thing up in Waco…. impressive run and his offense was putting up points all the time like Leach up in Lubbock. But the “guy” running the program the wrong way showed all we needed to know to be glad he didn’t end up here. Can’t forget how much chaos ensued up there under his watch. 4 Quote
mmdaytontexas Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Patterson was a stickler for the rules, and his rule was everyone interviewed. Briles thought it was beneath him to do that, and Patterson told him thanks for taking my call. We got punished with Charlie, but after the Briles behind-the-scenes stuff broke wide open, we all realized we were blessed that his circus didn't end up in Austin. That is one thing we can thank Patterson for. 8 Quote

Texas fan in Georgia Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago RG3 also said Mack told him at the end of a game to transfer to Texas. Imagine what could’ve been. 1 Quote
Quinncent McManning, Jr. Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago Obviously in retrospect we are glad this didn’t happen. In an alternative world how different would the last 13 years have been with Saban or Briles taking over for Mack? Quote

Really can't say "Saban or anyone else" in the same sentence. Frankly, the best coaching job in the B12 for a run of several years was by the 40 year old man [I'm a man] with the mullet. The most successful coach was the chinless one at our rival. There were a dozen better choices than Charlie apparent to the naked eye. None of them were Saban, who wasn't coming. None of them were Bob Stoops. None of them were the mullet. All of them would have likely been more successful than Charlie; maybe even very successful. Patterson was the wrong choice as AD. Leave it at that. 5 Quote
Oldest Horn Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago When was Briles’ last extension in Waco, and did it coincide with him “turning down” the Texas job. Quote

Agree with all except Saban thing, I don’t think you realize how close that was to materializing. Mack blew that sh*t up. 2 Quote

Roy Hinojosa Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago It would be nice to have a comprehensive breakdown on what went wrong with the end of Mack Brown's tenure and the subsequent sh*t show that followed. Whenever something is brought up like not going after certain QBs like Hurts, Luck, Barrett and I can go on, the curtain opens just enough but then abruptly closes. How did Texas get it so wrong for so long? With the hiring of Patterson to Charlie Strong to Tom Herman, things were bad. Hell, Chris Warren the other day on X was saying he was surprised they won any game in 2017 because how dysfunctional things were behind the scenes. That's crazy 😬 1 Quote

That's crazy 😬 Tom Herman, to be fair, was EVERY blue blood’s dream coach. He unfortunately turned out to be completely unqualified, spineless, immoral, and arrogant once he got a job at the Texas level. 2 Quote
OTFBrandon Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Saw this today and chuckled. I do wonder though what could’ve been if someone else was hired instead of Charlie Strong. Quote

Some of my stepmom's family are big TCU fans since her brother, Michael Reeder, was a kicker at TCU who was an All-American and Lou Groza award winner. He's also in the TCU Athletics Hall of Fame. The entire family canceled their season tickets a few years ago because they were so pissed off TCU hired Kendall Briles as OC to replace Garrett Riley after Riley left for Clemson following the 2022 season. They have since renewed their season tix after Briles left for South Carolina this offseason. 2 Quote
jonbailey Posted 24 minutes ago Posted 24 minutes ago I'm glad he was never the coach at Texas but I'm curious how moving from Waco to Austin would have impacted the off the field stuff. The baylor scandal broke in 2016, two years after this theoretical hire. Would all the horrible stuff stayed buried in Waco? Could that above the law, win at all costs attitude work in the much less insular Austin? Can you separate the awful off the field stuff from what you get on the field or is it part of why he was having success at the time. Quote
