We could be looking at a 24-team playoff

According to Ross Dellenger, the CFP is exercising its look-in window for media rights of a new college football playoff structure that would include 24 teams.

ESPN currently owns those rights.

By moving to 24 teams from 16, it would cause the elimination of conference championship games. Thus, the media rights package would need to increase by at least $250mm.

Presumably, this would require every G4 conference to require its members to play at least one G4 team (or Notre Dame) in non-conference.

I would like 16 more but will not happen. After watching games last weekend. I am for 24 . A lot of damn good teams out there . Will be a challenge to get through SEC with just two losses. Even more so for us with Ohio State up next .

I’m all in on a 24 team playoff. If you’re in the Top 25, you’re in. 
 

The SEC going to a 9-game conference schedule made the path for all of its members teams that much more difficult compared to Big10 and Big12.

Games would be meaningful for home field /seeding for first two rounds

I like this. Opening rounds on college campus, no byes, neutral sites can begin with the quarters.

Cancel the dumb conference games. Play the Army/ Navy the 1st Saturday in December. Play 1st round of CFP the 2nd weekend in December at home field.

Im somewhere between meh and uggh. 
Devalues the season, devalues the conferences. 
I think the sweet spot is 8-16 range.

Why can’t we either keep it 12 or go to 16 and put the best teams in with no auto qualifiers? All this does is admit that they’re too chicken 💩 to put the best 12/16 teams in and leave out the sorry 11-1 or 10-2 teams that won games on a sorry schedule, so now we have to go to 24 just to get the actual best 16 teams because the other 8 spots will include your big 12 runner up, ACC runner up, g5 teams, and 2 loss ACC/Big12 teams that can get in while ranking a tough 9-3 sec team behind them and still getting in.

Trying to do to college football what they did to college basketball and make the regular season meaningless. Personally I would rather go back to playing bowls and then pick the top two teams to meet in a championship game after
