We could be looking at a 24-team playoff

Hate the 24 team idea but if it led to 11 p4 game schedules I would be ok with it I guess. I hate the 24 team idea but I hate all these bye games more

SEC will be a hurdle. Eliminating the CCG for a couple more first round games will be a fight.

The world argued that increasing the field the World Cup would devalue the quality/ or significance of the games/ matches. Turns out that was a load of crappppp. It was the best world cup of all time and its not just because of the location. There were amazing games with upsets of those lower seeds. In the end I don't care between 16 or 24 teams now. I do think the conference championship games cause more negative than positive. The money will come, even with the elimination of conference championship games and the move to 24 teams. I'm will to bet that if we went to 24 teams we will look back and say it is still just as great of a product. If I'm wrong I will come bsck and own it. But enough, is enough. Just go to 24 and lets go.

Don’t forget that the NFL likes expanding their broadcast windows in December. And crushes CFB in ratings. Even in the 12 team format those first round games get beat by NFL games in the same weekend. ESPN will likely need to sublet some of those early round games to manage inventory. 
 

The World Cup didn’t need to worry about an alternate version of their sport.

FCS does it with it 24, but they have 3 extra conferences. I like 16, with the higher seed hosting through QFs. Adds something to the regular season to be able to host 2 home playoff games.

The goal is to get in the CFP annually and hope to be playing ones best football. 24 increases the chance of making the CFP.

Why not try 16 first? No byes nice even number. You can always go to 24 if 16 doesn't work but you'll never be able to shrink it.

Undeserved.   A not so much talked about issue the more you expand.  It increases the odds that teams make late season personnel decisions that impact play and potential outcomes in those late season games.  And still defaults to too many teams, too few games and too many unbalanced schedules.  The bs seedings matter too.

About the only reason to do 24 is more money.  But as one who attends that only costs me more so that’s not exactly benefit.

Just dont call it a playoff. Call it a tournament or play in and the last 4-8 teams standing are the playoff teams. Ridiculous to say you had a good season because you made the playoffs at 8-4

Sankey basically gave in to 24 . Big 10 wasn't gonna agree to 16. Just get ready it's a done deal. ESPN still gets the first shot to keep it. Before it is opened up to bids. Pretty sure ESPN is ready to pay whatever to keep it. But again things change on a dime.

Yeah, I’m with a lot of you here ---- 24 is just ESPN shaking the money tree. It nukes conference title games, waters down the field, and turns November into glorified seeding. Sixteen is the sweet spot: real stakes, real games, real atmospheres. Anything past that is just TV executives playing bracket‑builder.

12 no good.  16 my preference, but ok with 24.  Big opening weekend games will come back, maybe even increase.  Teams won’t be so after if that once loss in non conference and out of playoffs. Good with deleting conference championship games .

Yeah, on the same page as you -- 12 was junk, 16 is clean, and 24 works fine if it brings back real non‑conference games. Killing conference title games is overdue anyway; they’re just TV filler at this point -- again, in agreement.

If they go to 24 teams with no conference championship games, do you think that’s a step toward eliminating conferences as we know them? Perhaps we end up with an nfl-like structure with two large conferences.

 

Another way we get there could be another round of expansion by the SEC & Big 10, essentially cherry picking Notre Dame and a couple of the ACC schools. 
 

im not a proponent of this, but I think that’s the direction we are heading.
