Long-term overuse causes problems Cirrhosis is from extreme alcohol abuse over an extended period of time. Not short-term use, which was my point. Cajunhorn Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I’m about 42 days clean from smoking. 30 year smoker. This new prescription stuff in Louisiana is crazy. The apothecary shop in Lafayette has to be the busiest business in town. I’m mixed on whether just anyone should be able to smoke it. If it was the old stuff we used to get no biggie but I think this new stuff might be a little much for some. I feel like the vapes thc and nicotine are what people are going to look back on in10 years and regret that they didn’t stick with flower or gummies. To each his own. I’ll dabble with it again, my problem is once I start I can’t stop. We’re all different but I know for me personally, weed is highly addictive and I’m a low performer on it. My best friend can smoke and not be addicted and remain a high performer but had to quit drinking because he’s an alcoholic. I can drink here and there and be fine. We laugh that our addictions are the exact opposite of each others. Smoke em if you got em, drink em if you got em. Life’s short. F it Quote

AusMOJO Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I don't drink or smoke personally (last time I had a drink was when I turned 18 and the other time two years ago when my dad passed away). But if people want to smoke or drink, that's up to them. I'm not a fan of having to smell peoples smokes, my nonno used to smoke a pack a day and that sh*t reeked cause he smoked inside lol. Either way, do your thing. I also don't have a problem with the adverts OTF does. Don't have to agree with them all but it's a business at the end of the day. There's overheard, there's staff to pay and things to build the brand. I'm sure everyone can understand that. Quote

Sure, below are some articles on the growing evidence. Now there is one caveat. These studies apply to regular, habitual users (daily), not to people who only smoked (or ate it) it occasionally, as most of us kids in the 70s did. Not only were our tokes infrequent due to strict laws and lack of supply, but it pot was 10x less potent than it is today. Also, in no way am I saying that pot is more harmful than alcohol because the medical experts that quantify all the harmful effects of mentally altering substances say alcohol has potentially more dangerous effects on the body if abused than does marijuana. I'm just saying some studies are now showing that marijuana is not without long-term risks, even for the casual daily user: cognitively, psychologically, and physically (pneumo). And the secondhand smoke is harmful to others, just as with cigarette smoke. I too am in the medical field. While I wouldn’t condone the use of either. I can tell you for a fact we spend billions of dollars in this country due to alcohol abuse. It’s a killer We really don’t spend any because of marijuana abuse But I do understand there is a cost to be paid for both I do think it’s funny when people try to paint one of the other as being better because it’s legal or or better because it’s less harmful to the body Not sure either is true 2 Quote

You may not be aware but you can partake in pot without getting high these days. It can take the edge off without you getting impaired. It even serves far more practical applications as an analgesic. Just because you don’t agree doesn’t mean you should be condescending. Alcohol consumption is unhealthy yes. But with the new level of potency of marijuana, even casual use will probably have adverse effects. I’m curious to see what studies show in 20 years. My opinion is that if you need to take any substance to relax or relieve stress, it’s not a healthy coping mechanism. Quote

They are basically micro dosing CBD and THC. There Are lots of things which put you at higher health risk when consumed daily. 1 Quote
Schindler86 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I am not a businessman, but I do find it interesting that the role this place (and others like it) play in the lives of many subscribers. It is more than a service it is kind of a virtual community/pub that exists around a shared interest blurring the line between business and belonging. Subscribers have at times a real connection to this community and so would argue that bond is your greatest asset, and is the core service you provide. I would say if it is run in a way that feels more transactional/anonymous while still helping the business could begin to chip away at that bond. Bobby, I think you guys do a great job of walking the line on that (I don’t know your financials, but given the hiring and opening a physical location you are doing it seems things are going well) to where the business does well and still honors a pub-like feel with subscribers. I say all of this to say that if you were ever put in a position to where you needed to make hard choices on the business that would erode the atmosphere you have created -or- make difficult personnel decisions that you would rather not do if not for financials, then I think you have enough goodwill among the base to cover any gap/deficit. 1 Quote

I’m not sure how “unhealthy coping mechanisms” needs to be addressed. By your own definition they’re unhealthy. Whether you’re getting high or getting drunk regularly/daily, neither are good coping mechanisms. Quote
